Nangar Gyspy wins Golden Sands Final

In a dazzling display of stamina and track sense, Nangar Gypsy secured a thrilling victory in the Group 1 Golden Sands Final at Albion Park.

The Dennis Barnes-trained star utilised her inside draw perfectly, storming home to win the 600m feature in 34.97 seconds, claiming her fourth consecutive victory over the distance at the track at $4 odds with the top greyhound bookmakers.

Breaking cleanly from box one, Nangar Gypsy settled just behind early leader Gold Scotch, who set a blistering pace with a sharp opening sectional.

As the field rounded the final turn, Nangar Gypsy found her moment, railing strongly to edge past Gold Scotch by a length.

The $51 Picklebet longshot Tagovailoa finished third after a late surge, completing a competitive and exciting race.

Trainer Dennis Barnes praised Nangar Gypsy’s determination and consistency, highlighting her love for the Albion Park track.

“She’s just an honest little jumper, and she does everything you hope for,” he said.

Reflecting on the race, Barnes admitted to concerns about Gold Scotch’s early speed.

“I thought, oh, we’re in trouble now when he was in front because it wasn’t that much between them. But she put her head down at the right time.”

This latest win adds to Nangar Gypsy’s impressive record, with 20 victories from 53 starts and prize money earnings surpassing $204,000.

Her ability to perform on the big stage and adapt to challenging conditions further cements her reputation as one of the leading middle-distance greyhounds in the country.

Gold Scotch, trained by Anthony Azzopardi, was gallant in defeat, leading for most of the race but unable to counter Nangar Gypsy’s strong finish.
