Talking breeding: Shelbourne Aston litter an owner’s delight

THIS week's review of litters selected from the Victorian Litter Registrations list for the week ending April 4, begins with a beautifully bred litter of 10 pups by 2008 Irish Derby and Champion Stakes winner, Shelbourne Aston* (August 2005 Just The Best x Queen Survivor) whose dam is by Staplers Jo x Cool Survivor (Lodge Prince x Gunboat Ann).

Hazlewood North breeder, Gary Summers, registered the litter of five dogs and five bitches, who are from the well bred bitch Make Do (January 2011 Knocka Norris x Canoodles) whose dam is by Go Wild Teddy x Shari To Go (Solve The Puzzle x Brave Gem).

She is from a handy litter which included Avalicious, De Ja Moo, Just Bliss, Modest Ruler and Solitary Bloke, with their dam also producing winners from each of her three other litters, whelped in November 2011 by High Earner, March 2013 by Aston Galilee and November 2013 by Cosmic Chief.

Make Do raced 47 times for 10 wins and seven placings, winning three times over 400m at Warragul (22.77) where she also won over 460m (26.42) and also won over 400m at (22.79), 450m at Shepparton (25.64), 513m at Traralgon (30.24), 460m at Warragul (26.46), 500m at (28.24) and 515m at Sandown (29.95).

Shelbourne Aston is by the Australian bred sire Just The Best (Credibility x Flying Amy) whose dam is by Amerigo Man x Tenthill Flyer (Chariot Supreme x National Queen) and it is interesting how many breeders these days are looking at internationally based sires, who are by Australian bred sires.

He was from a very good litter which included Diver, Greenacre Ben, Musical Moment, Shelbourne Capri, Shelbourne Merc, Shelbourne Tiger, Shelbourne Bonus and Shelbourne Park who according to available results records, won more than 100 races between them.

Their dam, the beautifully bred, Queen Survivor was a prolific producer with 54 named offspring from eight litters, producing winners from each of her other litters, by Boherduff Light, Brett Lee, Come On Ranger, , Roanokee Shanless Park and Spiral Nikita with almost 20 individual winners of more than 10 races, including 10 who won more than 20 races.

Make Do's sire, Knocka Norris (February 2006 Elite State x Oriental Angel) has Just The Best on the second line of his pedigree so this litter has a double cross of the outstanding Credibility x Flying Amy bloodlines, and I would suggest that any prospective buyers looking for a foundation bitch for their own line, should have a very close look at the five bitches in this litter, that is if any are going to be available.

Two Barcia Bale litters

Victorian Litter RegistrationsNEXT we have two litters by current leading Victorian Metropolitan sire Barcia Bale (March 2010 Go Wild Teddy x Princess Bale) with nine pups in the first litter.

Registered by popular Gippsland identity Gerrie Sneyders, the seven dogs and two bitches are from the beautifully bred bitch Amlin Girl (November 2011 Mogambo x Token Prince) whose dam is by Token Prince x Opporchancity (Fortified Speed* x Miss Read Head).

Amlin Girl is from her dam's only litter of 10 named, which included, Cost Cutter, Heidi Seek, Inner Flame, Kenju, Lock Stock, Roxy's Pride, Sambura Sunset, Star Ripper and Tabouli.

On the track, she raced 22 times for seven wins and two placings, winning three times over 520m at Cranbourne (30.11), twice over 600m at The Meadows (34.71) and also over 460m at Warragul (26.04) and 660m at Bendigo (38.06).

Junortoun breeder, Desmond Dowling, has the other Barcia Bale litter, which unfortunately has just two bitches, from the very well bred, 2011 Cranbourne Cup winner, Gold Heritage (May 2009 Texas Gold x Hot Heritage) whose dam is by Placard x Wildfire Shelly (Wild Season x Web Of Fire).

Gold Heritage is from a handy litter of four named, which included, Classy Heritage, Supreme Heritage and Texas Heritage with their dam also having winners on file from each of her three other litters, by Collision, and Fabregas, but she hasn't been a prolific producer, with just 11 named offspring from four litters to date.

On the track, she raced 36 times for 13 wins and nine placings and in addition to her Group 2 Cranbourne Cup win, she also finished second in the Group 1 Perth Cup and has a litter of one dog and two bitches on file, whelped in January 2014, by Oaks Road.

Ready to Rumble

WEST MELTON breeder, Brian Treloar, has our next litter for review, nine pups, registered for the Treloar Family syndicate, by Cosmic Rumble (April 2007 Spiral Nikita x Spiritual Rumble), which should create plenty of interest from prospective buyers with future breeding in mind.

The two dogs and seven bitches are from the well bred bitch, Sooky Suzie (December 2010 Bombastic Shiraz x Phiona) whose dam is by Hot Chill x Iona Phantom (Phantom Fire x Clan Lass).

Race A Chaser syndications

Sooky Suzie is from a very successful litter, which included Big Black Mac, Iceman Lang, Kimberly Shiraz, King Of Spin, Night Fighter, Old Fella, Pippa Shiraz, Rodillo Bronze and Australian Cup winner Spud Regis.

Their dam, Phiona, also has a successful February 2008 litter on file, by Pure Octane, which produced Banger Harvey, Clear Octane, Cooney's Medal, Mambo Light, Phiona's Girl and Pure Intensity.

On the track, Sooky Suzie raced 35 times for eight wins and nine placings, winning twice over 515m at Sandown (29.69), twice over 525m at The Meadows (30.29), twice over 390m at Warrnambool (21.99) where she also won over 450m (25.38) and also won over 390m at Ballarat (22.21).

She has two named offspring on file, Cindy Lass and Kim Kadash, from a litter of two dogs and five bitches, whelped in July 2014 by Bekim Bale.

Dejan's Fear* litter

NEXT we have a nice litter of nine pups by the successful Irish imported sire, Fear Zafonic* (October 2006 Premier Fantasy x Farloe Oyster) who has thrown some good winners here, from limited opportunities.

Cranbourne West breeder, Dejan Stojanovic registered the litter, of two dogs and seven bitches who are from the well bred, proven producer, Mystique Miss (February 2010 El Galo x Deloris) whose dam is by Token Prince x Hypoblast (Ultimate Wish x Small Amount).

She is from an all winning litter of three named, which included Here After and Relampago, with their dam also having winners from each of her other litters on file, by Bond, Hallucinate (twice) and Surf Lorian.

On the track, she was lightly raced with just 17 starts, which produced two wins and two placings, with wins over 600m at The Meadows (35.64) and 595m at Sandown (34.81) and placings over 431m at Ipswich and 596m at Geelong.

She has winners on file from her first litter, Golden Fang, Ima Big Unit, Ima Lonely Girl, Ma Ma Marty and Mystique Molly, then she has a litter of four dogs and five bitches on file, whelped in June 2014 by Lochinvar Marlow, and has now been retired to the couch, living a life of luxury with new owner, Joan Grounds.

Luann litter

LARA breeder Wallace Heras has a nice litter of nine pups on the list this week by recently retired, Group 1 champion sprinter, Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer* x Chloe Allen).

The five dogs and four bitches are from the well bred, proven producer Come On Luann (February 2009 Return The King x Star Diva) whose dam is by Collision x Flaming Subject (Token Prince x Signing).

Come On Luann is from a handy litter, which included, Black Tequila, Dynamic Diva, Expression Eyes, Into The Mist, Larabella, Leigh, Liege, Pucka Diva and Radiant, with their dam producing winners from both of her other litters on file, whelped in February 2011 by Dyna Lachlan and March 2012 by Where's Pedro.

Come On Luann raced 45 times for 13 wins and eight placings, winning six times over 515m at Sandown, with an outstanding 29.43, P.B and breaking the 30 second mark in all six wins, won twice over 525m at The Meadows (29.88) where she also won over 600m (34.56), twice over 480m at Horsham (27.16) and also won over 450m at Ballarat (25.85) and 500m at Bendigo (28.07).

Success in the breeding barn was immediate, with her first litter, whelped in November 2012 by Premier Fantasy* producing, Ballerino, Come On Fantasy, Kuranda Lass, Premier Hawk and Trip To Cairns, then a January 2014 litter by Westmead Hawk* produced Burnt Ember, Cocoa, Come On Juliet, Hawk Ember and Pink Shoelaces.

She has since whelped a litter of three dogs and five bitches, born May 2015, by Cosmic Rumble, and I would suggest that taking into account her impressive record on the track and early success as a brood bitch, her daughters should be well sought after as breeding propositions.
