Black Hummer Still Humming Along For Westerlo
Once the fog lifted the meeting commenced and the Lang Lang Coursing Club provided another good days coursing. In the first and subsequent rounds there were some very close courses, this always makes for a much more exciting day.
We saw some newcomers to coursing which is always pleasing. There were three puppy events and with Lang Lang hosting the Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship meeting during August, nominations are looking good.
Due to a malfunctioning motor, resulting in the lure being unable to operate and after speaking with both trainers is was agreed that in fairness to both greyhounds contesting the feature event of the Lang Lang Football Club Cup, that the event would be divided between the two finalists of Black Hummer and Dark Phantom. Both greyhounds had coursed well for the day.
Hillbilly Jack made it two in a row for Maureen & Kevin Turner of Corio, winning the Alan Waycott Memorial All Aged Dog defeating Allegro Jay Jay. Ashlee Black making her coursing debut for Garry Armstrong defeated Voodoo Oak in the Charlie Spiteri Memorial All Aged Mixed.
The first of the puppy stakes was taken out by Jibba Jabba for Nicky McRae defeating Dashing Dandy. That event was followed by a mixed puppy with another first timer winning in Nicole Stanley's Stylish Return. That made Nicole's long haul from Portland worthwhile, Stylish Return defeated Ben Divirgilio's Granny Clampett. Nice to see Ben's newborn son at the ripe old age of two weeks, attending his first coursing meeting. He'll be our next generation of ‘dog' person. In the bitch puppy Lionel Kraemer's Arbie Barbie took coursing honors in her defeat of Pirate Master.
The next four events were maidens. The Moore's from Devon Meadows were succesful again this week with another of their charges, when Four Walls gave a good account of herself defeating Fireball Baby in the final. Posties Are Us delivered the mail for Ross Stallworthy when he defeated Crosswords. Bill Van-Ness had success with his new kid on the block when Syonic Line defeated Neville & Kay King's Zimran and finally Tony & Margaret Mills' Bloss' Burra took the next step from his runner up last week defeating Best for Now.
All in all it was a great meeting, many thanks to the volunteers who put in so much time and effort. The Werribee Coursing Club will host the next coursing meeting on July 12th. This meeting will be held at the Werribee Racecourse. Nominations close 9th July at 9.00 with GRV. Hope to see you there!
