First Weekend Of Puppy Champs Coursing A Success

turned on one of the great weather days for to commence this two weekend meeting.

With 109 nominations for the 3 event program it was sa solid day coursing. This year our nominations are continuing to be very strong, with an average of more than 100 per meeting. For the whole year of 2008, we averaged approx. 83 per meeting. So keep the nominations coming and support coursing.

This week we saw trainers bringing their charges from as far away as Portland and Garvoc in the West of the state, to Merton in the East, with others coming from Briagolong and Alberton West in the South Eastern part of the state. We certainly are a dedicted bunch of greyhound enthusiasts.

The Sylvester Doyle saw more than 50 puppies vying to win the $3,000 in stake money to the winner and after three great rounds today (Sunday) we will have 7 puppies to contest another three rounds next week.

Our second event on the program was the Gippsland Cup, and this saw 31 greyhounds contesting the event. There were many close courses and we now see 8 greyhounds up to the challenge to continue on next week.

Finally the third event was the and many could hear Ray Boundy himself calling the odds and trying to get the attention of the punters. After commencing with 25 greyhounds were are now down to the final 7.

If you happened to get run out of your event this week, don't despair. Nominate for next week, as we have scheduled another 7 events to complement these three events. This will make up our usual 10 event program.

The canteen did see a flurry of activity and it must be the sea air from close by that sets the taste buds into action. Nancy's delicious scones are to die for, as is Joy's yummy fruit cake and I for one will be lining up again next week for these scrumptious morsels.

Even if you are not coursing your greyhounds, why don't you take the short trip down the South Gippy Hwy, just 35 minutes past and have a look at what this part of the sport is offering? You will be pleasantly surprised and wish you'd known about it al ong time ago. As they say on the TV, COME ON DOWN!
