Santosa’s Rose End Capaspe Jack’s Winning Streak

this week headed of to “Prime Lamb Country” yes, that it what this part of Victoria is famous for and as you drive off the Hume Highway to Longwood there was plenty of evidence to give support to Longwood's famous “export”. Spring certainly is upon us.

There were many new faces at Longwood and some were successful in their quest to win an event and take home a much sort after trophy. The nominations for coursing meetings continues to be very strong, and this meeting was no exception as it was solidly supported by the local community and from other coursing communities many kilometers away.

The feature event was the Burtons Supa IGA and with a strong field of contenders the two finalists which saw off the red collar and Santosa's Rose off the white collar putting on a great display of coursing. Santosa's Rose clearly won the slips exit with Campaspe Jack in hot pursuit, at the half way mark Santosa's Rose was leading by about a length and a half and it looked like Santosa's Rose would have an easy victory, but once to the outside Campaspe Jack open the throttle and put the foot flat to the floor. He was gaining with every stride but Santosa's Rose kept chasing hard. As the finishing line neared the spectators could not tell who would be winner, and even as the dogs crossed the line no one knew.

It was close! When the Judge put out the white flag, Santosa's Rose from way down Portland way had taken out the converted prize. Well done to Nicole Stanley who trains Santosa's Rose. It certainly was a victory for “Girl Power”. This was the first time Campaspe Jack has been defeated since winning his puppy maiden at Melton last year and earlier this year winning Melton's .

Rythmic Oak took out the Don Davidson Memorial for the Pattichis crew from t Albans, when she defeated the locally trained Kid Sullivan. Bob Iredale's, Transadler at the grand age of 5 years 8 months, still has not lost his keenness to chase, although defeated in his first course, he certainly is a grand campaigner for not only coursing but our sport in general. In dog year's he's around 50 years of age.

Plunger took out the Nagambie Trial Track 1-Win stake for Cynthia O'Brien when he defeated the local trainer Steve Hancock's Black Ruffian.

Bull Bar Barb defeated Shirdon Lauryn in the GRC Bitch Puppy, The Bendigo GRA Dog Puppy was won by One My Behalf when he defeated El Loco Assassin, the Burtons Supa IGA Dog Puppy was taken out by Militant Rain who defeated Northern Display. Butterfly Effect broke her coursing maiden status at her first start when she defeated Belliza Girl. Chardonnay Rebel defeated Silver Shirley. Geoffy defeated Knox Zephyr, and finally Napoleon Rebel Defeated Stylish Blue.

There were many fine and close courses. There were quite few occasions when dogs came from behind to sneak up on the rail to put their nose over the line first. All in all it was a great day's coursing, with many new faces vowing to come back because they'd had such a great time.

Thankyou must go t those volunteers that keep our coursing facilities in great shape, feed the coursing fraternity and in general give us a huge amount of support.
