2015 Group 2 Warrnambool Cup form, tips and runner comments

THE final of the 2 will be run on Wednesday evening, with this year's edition featuring a stunning field of sprinters.

In an extremely open market, three time Group winner Dyna Villa is the $3.60 favourite with William Hill after his 25.25 heat win last week. The son of Collision and Roxio Bale will jump from box three in the $45,000-to-the-winner feature, looking to make it win 25 at start 44 and take his prize money earnings to $750,083 – officially making him the sport's greatest ever stakes earner.

It won't be an easy assignment for Dyna Villa with seven other genuine contenders seeking to seize the prize. Ronray Spirit (box two) and Azza Azza Azza (box six) are already country cup victors, having claimed the Warragul and Shepparton Cups respectively.

Also in the mix is Ride The Rails (box one) which is never far away in this type of company, while rising stars Gracas King (box four) and Kayda Shae (box five) will both be looking to announce their arrival on the big stage after two impressive heat performances.

Rounding out the field are Bills Back (box seven) and Midnight Ride (box eight) which are both double figure odds, currently $12 and $14 with William Hill respectively, but, based on their heat times, neither can be completely discounted from the final.

Lets check out the statistics for each runner in the race with comments from Australian Racing Greyhound‘s expert form analyst Brad Bugeja.

Box One: Ride The Rails
Black Dog – 34.2kg – October 2011
Cosmic Chief x Pearl Napolean
Trainer: Kelly Bravo
Career: 64:24-15-8
T/D: 8:4-3-1
T/D Best: 25.07
Career Highlights: WON 2014 Ballarat Derby, 2ND 2014 Group 1 , 3RD 2015 Group 2 Warragul Cup, FINALIST 2014 Group 1 Silver Chief Classic, 2015 Group 1 Rookie Rebel.

“Superstar chaser who thoroughly deserves to win a race of this calibre, however I dont believe he has fared too well with the box draw. He isn't the greatest of beginners and he likes to get out into some open space soon after box rise. With the abundance of speed drawn on his outside I think he is likely to get shuffled a long way back in the early stages. With some breaks mid race he can maybe sneak into a place but I can't see him giving these chasers a start and a beating.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $11 with William Hill

Box Two: Ronray Spirit
Black Dog – 33.4kg – December 2012
Cosmic Rumble x Ronray Disco
Trainer: Terry Reid
Career: 28: 16-1-4
T/D: 1:1-0-0
T/D Best: 25.27
Career Highlights: WON 2015 Group 2 Warragul Cup, FINALIST 2015 Group 1 .

“Reigning Warragul Cup Champ and he caught the eye with a commanding 25.27 heat win here last week. The time wasn't overly impressive but he did find some trouble in the early stages. If he happens to land on the lure he is capable of getting down to the 25.10 mark or even a tad quicker. With a slow beginner on his inside, he should get every chance to score if he can step on terms as he should have sufficient speed to drive through early.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $5 with William Hill

Box Three: Dyna Villa
Black Dog – 32.1kg – October 2012
Collision x Roxio Bale
Trainer: Nicole Davis
Career: 43:24-7-7
T/D: 2:1-0-1
T/D Best: 25.25
Career Highlights: WON 2014 Group 1 Melbourne Cup, 2015 Group 1 Paws of Thunder, 2015 Group 2 Queensland Derby, 2ND 2015 Group 1 Silver Chief Classic, 3RD 2014 Group 1 Hobart Thousand, FINALIST 2014 Group 2 Cup, 2015 Group 2 Shepparton Cup, 2015 Group 1 .

“Freakish talent who was probably very lucky to win his heat, after missing the kick he took a few strides to get going and he was a half length away from getting spat out the back. He really is a super talent and he tends to do everything in the big races. If he captures this race he will surpass the 750k mark and he will be one step closer to being the first chaser to crack the million dollar mark. There is on big thing in his favour tonight, the chaser in the four does like to track wide so he should get plenty of room to muster speed.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $3.60 with William Hill

Box Four: Gracas King
Black Dog – 31.3kg – February 2013
Lochinvar Marlow x Hail Queenie
Trainer: Jason Thompson
Career: 14:10-1-2
T/D: 1:1-0-0
T/D Best: 25.13
Career Highlights: WON Ballarat 21.88, Shepparton 25.13, Ballarat 25.21, Shepparton 31.87, Warrnambool 25.13.

“He has won six of his past seven starts and he appears to be getting stronger with every run. Last week he managed to destroy Dawkins Bale and Armed And Ready and if he reproduces that type of effort he should give a great sight. The box draw doesn't really worry me but the amount of speed drawn around him does. I'm expecting him to cop pressure soon after box rise and he might be hitting a wall as they approach the finish line.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $4.40 with William Hill

Box Five: Kayda Shae
Red Fawn Dog – 33.4kg – June 2013
x Cosmic Aphrodite
Trainer: Kelly Bravo
Career: 8:6-1-0
T/D: 3:3-0-0
T/D Best: 24.99
Career Highlights: WON Park 29.27, Warrnambool 24.99

“One of the most exciting chasers in training and with a clear run he will take a power of beating. Last week he made Luca Neveelk look second rate and he managed to break the 25 second barrier. If he reproduces that type of effort he will be winning, however he has an amazing amount of speed drawn around him tonight and I'm expecting him to find a lot of early bother. He will likely start around the $5 mark with William Hill and that appears to be nice odds but he really can't afford to make any mistakes early.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $5 with William Hill

Box Six: Azza Azza Azza
Brindle Dog – 32.0kg – May 2012
Collision x Alotta Mojo
Trainer: Wayne Vassallo
Career: 38:25-4-0
T/D: 3:2-0-0
T/D Best: 25.19
Career Highlights: WON 2015 Group 2 Shepparton Cup, 2015 Listed Easter Gift.

“He is absolutely flying at present and he looked impressive when posting a solid 25.19 here last week. He is a little hit or miss early and with the speed on his outside he can't afford to make any mistakes early. If he pings the lids then he becomes a serious contender but if he hesitates like I think he will, then he is unlikely to make an impact.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $4 with William Hill

Box Seven: Bills Back
White and Black Dog – 34.1kg – August 2012
Premier Fantasy x Proud To Own
Trainer: Clifford Smith
Career: 34: 21-5-4
T/D: 4:3-1-0
T/D Best: 25.16
Career Highlights: WON Bendigo 23.75, 23.43, Ballarat 22.49, 25.64, Warrnambool 25.16

“Has been a super chaser for quite a while now and deserves his spot in the final. Last week he reeled off impressive sectionals before winning in 25.20 and with another good getaway he should give a great sight. He has the early speed to match any chaser in this event and he could be the value.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $12 with William Hill

Box Eight: Midnight Ride
Brindle Dog – 31.4kg – March 2013
Cosmic Rumble x Midnight Eclipse
Trainer: Andrea Bahen
Career: 12: 6-2-2
T/D: 1:1-0-0
T/D Best: 25.13
Career Highlights: WON Ballarat 24.94, Bendigo 27.51 TR, Sandown 29.71

“He is my tip for the final and I think he is enormous overs. He is likely to start double figure odds but he appears perfectly placed in the pink draw and he should be getting all the breaks as they head into the first bend. He posted a slick 25.13 in his heat last week and at his second look tonight I believe he can break the 25 second barrier. He lacks experience but he has a massive engine and he is way over the odds.”

Odds to win the Warrnambool Cup: $14 with William Hill

Top Four: 8 – 3 – 2 – 7
