2015 Group 3 Canberra Cup final odds, tips and betting preview

FEATURE racing heads to the Australian Capital Territory on Sunday night, with the 3 Cup set to be run and won over the testing 530 metre trip.

The current favourite to take out the $25,000-to-the-winner feature is the Anthony -trained Uno Suzie from box seven. One of two runners for Azzopardi, the daughter of Cosmic Chief and Uno Witch is $2.75 with leading bookmaker William Hill following on from an impressive 30.57 heat victory last weekend. The black bitch comes into the feature on the back of three straight victories, including last months Group 2 Black Top at , and appears suited out wide on the track.

Azzopardi's other finalist is My Boy Snoop, $4.40, which finished a respectable second behind Irish Whip last Sunday. The white and black dog moves into box three for the final, a draw from which he has won three of five appearances.

William Hill are offering $3.20 for the fastest heat qualifier, Irish Whip, which has drawn the coveted rails alley. A winner of six from 19, the son of Premier Fantasy and clocked a slick 30.47 when winning from box seven last week, and has clocked 30.42 from an inside draw over the track and trip in the past.

The Group 3 Canberra Cup is race eight on the card and will jump at 8:26pm. Lets check out the form of each runner, with expert comment from Australian Racing Greyhound‘s form analyst, Brad Bugeja.

Box One – Irish Whip
Black and White Dog – 34.0kg – March 2013
Premier Fantasy x Whip It Up
Prize money: $9,765
Trainer: Jason Platts
Career: 19: 6-3-3
T/D: 6: 3-1-0
T/D Best: 30.42

“Highly talented youngster and he has a great record over this track and trip. Last week he took off mid race and really powered to the line when posting a slick 30.47 and if he can reproduce that type of effort he will prove hard to hold out. My concern tonight though is that there is a fair bit of speed drawn out wide in this event and, if he hesitates slightly at box rise, he will get shuffled back and he won't be able to make an impact. He is likely to be under the odds and I would be happy to risk him in this event.”

Box Two – Guiaba
Black Bitch – 27.1kg – June 2012
Cosmic Rumble x Speedy Heather
Prize money: $2,660
Trainer: Neil Staines
Career: 7: 2-3-1
T/D: 2: 0-1-1
T/D Best: 30.77

“Exciting youngster and I think over time she is going to make quite a few finals. She is going to be big odds tonight but in her brief career she has shown some great signs and, although she only has two wins to her credit, one of those was in near record time at Dubbo. She was far from disgraced when placed in her heat last week and with a wide runner drawn directly on her outside she should get every chance to run a big race at odds.”

Odds to win the Canberra Cup: $18 with William Hill

Box Three – My Boy Snoop
White and Black Dog – 34.0kg – February 2012
Where's Pedro x Daydream
Prize money: 49: 12-11-5
Trainer:
Career: 49: 12-11-5
T/D: 1: 0-1-0
T/D Best: 30.64

“Class act on his night and he hit the line well when placed in his heat last week. If he gains a clear passage early he is clearly a strong chance, however he does miss the kick on most occasions and he is likely to get shuffled back in the early stages. He is going to be well supported but he will be under the odds and place claims appear best.”

Odds to win the Canberra Cup: $4.40 with William Hill

Box Four – Second Line
Black Dog – 29.3kg – March 2013
Oaks Road x Dana Mary
Prize money: $18,517
Trainer: Rod Mcdonald
Career: 48: 11-11-10
T/D: 4: 2-2-0
T/D Best: 30.75

“Returned to form with a strong 30.75 heat win but he is going to struggle from the middle pin tonight. He isn't the most reliable at box rise and with the speed coming from the outside he will have trouble holding a position at the first turn. Great effort to qualify but this does look beyond him.”

Odds to win the Canberra Cup: $23 with William Hill

Box Five – Cawbourne Whip
Black and White Bitch – 27.4kg – January 2012
Dyna Lachlan x
Prize money: $89,875
Trainer: Jodie Lord
Career: 44: 18-5-5
T/D: 5: 4-1-0
T/D Best: 30.09

“Resumed from a nine month spell here last week and managed to score a strong 31.10 heat win. The time wasn't there but her effort was great and if she can recapture the brilliant early speed she used to have she would be a serious chance. She has a great record here and she has posted an eye popping 30.09 previously. The big concern is that she is second up and she might be a little flat after last week's strong effort.”

Odds to win the Canberra Cup: $13 with William Hill

Box Six – Tullabong Honey
Black Bitch – 28.1kg – February 2013
x Hidden Assets
Prize money: $22,095
Trainer: Neil Staines
Career: 16: 7-1-2
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.72

“Speedy talent and she really caught the eye when scoring in 30.72 last week. She was having her first look at the track last week so I would expect her to be able to find a couple of lengths . She is armed with blinding early speed and with a clean getaway she should have sufficient speed to cross. She is definitely a leading chance in this event and I think she will have a great battle with Uno Suzie for the entire trip.”

Odds to win the Canberra Cup: $6 with William Hill

Box Seven = Uno Suzie
Black Bitch – 29.3kg – March 2013
Cosmic Chief x Uno Witch
Prize money: $89,408
Trainer: Anthony Azzopardi
Career: 50: 19-13-6
T/D: 4: 2-1-1
T/D Best: 30.57

“She recently captured the Black Top final in great style and she followed that effort up with a dazzling 30.57 heat win last week. Her past two wins have come from wide draws and she should get a nice cart across from the six in the early stages. She is currently racing in career best form and she looks perfectly placed to score again. She is currently around the $2.75 quote and that appears to be a very nice bet.”

Odds to win the Canberra Cup: $2.75 with William Hill

Box Eight – San Joy
Black and White Bitch – 28.0kg – March 2013
Premier Fantasy x Whip It Up
Prize money: $17,330
Trainer:
Career: 29: 11-7-3
T/D: 4: 2-1-0
T/D Best: 30.74

“Has a solid record here and she looked impressive when scoring last week in 30.74. On that occasion she was able to pounce on the early lead and from there on she was always going to take some running down. The wide draw is a big disadvantage tonight and there is quite a bit of speed drawn directly underneath, so she is likely to be posted wide for most of the trip. Good effort to qualify but she faces an uphill battle here.”
