2015 Group 3 Cranbourne Puppy Classic tips & betting preview

ONE of the best young fields ever assembled at will line up in Friday night's Group 3 over 520 metres, with star chaser Dyna Double One the current favourite with online bookmaker Bet365.

The son of and Crystin Bale will jump from box five for trainer , a draw from which he has won four races throughout his 31 start career, following on from his terrific 29.79 heat performance. Dailly has a strong hand in the final, also training Lektra Utopia (box one), Dawkins Bale (box six) and Diego Bale (box eight) which are currently $21, $14 and $17, respectively.

Kelly Bravo puts the polish on the $3.00 second favourite Kayda Shae (box two) and will be striving to make it back to back wins in the feature after training last year's winner Secret Spell. The son of and Cosmic Aphrodite is the fastest qualifier for $25,000-to-the-winner event, having recorded an airborne 29.78 last Wednesday.

Amazingly, every runner in this year's series is going into the event undefeated over the track and trip; however, only one will maintain their perfect record after the final.

To help you figure out which dog that will be, Australian Racing Greyhound‘s Brad Bugeja has previewed each dog's chance below.

Box One – Lektra Utopia
Brindle Dog – 30.2kg – January 2013
Collision x Lektra Angel
Prize money: $58,855
Trainer: Andrea Dailly
Career: 42: 12-7-6
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.15

“Ultra consistent chaser who is armed with early speed and he always seems to put himself into contention. Last week he blazed across from the wide draw and once he found the top he was never in doubt. Tonight he is facing a significantly tougher test, but the red draw means he still must be respected at nice odds. I don't think he can win, but he is a must for the exotics.”

Box Two – Kayda Shae
Red Fawn Dog – 34.0kg – June 2013
Kilty Lad x Cosmic Aphrodite
Prize money: $71,020
Trainer: Kelly Bravo
Career: 16: 9-3-0
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 29.78

“After a few disappointing runs, this future star bounced back to his brilliant best with an eye popping 29.78 heat win last week. On that occasion he flew the lids and he showed amazing early mid race speed and he even broke the 21 second barrier off the back which is just ridiculous. He appears well drawn in the two tonight, he has a good beginner on his inside and he has a wide runner on his outside, so with a clean getaway he should get all the breaks in the run to the first turn. He is a beast and I think he looks a great bet and with the likes of Dyna Double One in the event, we should be able to get over the odds.”

Box Three – Midnight Ride
Brindle Dog – 31.9kg – March 2013
x Midnight Eclipse
Prize money: $52,650
Trainer: Andrew Bahen
Career: 20: 10-3-4
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.17

“Another chaser with tremendous talent and I think he will improve dramatically on his impressive 30.17 heat win last week. Last week he was good to begin, but as they went through the first corner he went wider than normal and you could see that he lost his balance. With a run here under his belt, I think he is capable of getting down to the 29.90 mark with a clear passage. I think he has his work cut out trying to beat Kayda Shae, but if he lands in second spot he could fill the quinella quite easily.”

Box Four – West On Delly
Black Bitch – 27.8kg – February 2013
Brett Lee x West On Bluebird
Prize money: $60,495
Trainer: Jeff Britton
Career: 40: 11-10-5
T/D: 3: 3-0-0
T/D Best: 29.80

“Talented speedster but she can be very unreliable at box rise. Last week she stepped well and she was able to find the top early and from there on it was a procession. Tonight she meets a super lineup and from the middle pin she can't afford to make any mistakes early. With a clear run she wouldn't be too far away from most of her rivals, but I just can't see her making an impact from this draw.”

Box Five – Dyna Double One
Black Dog – 34.5kg – March 2013
Barcia Bale x Crystin Bale
Prize money: $229,258
Trainer: Andrea Dailly
Career: 31: 17-8-3
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 29.79

“Absolute superstar and one out is probably the fastest chaser on the planet. Last week he was slow to begin but he picked up quite quickly and he was able to find the lead as they went through the first corner. Once he got into some open spaces, he was able to go into overdrive and he really impressed with a scorching 29.79 win. With a clear passage tonight he probably wins again. However, I'm expecting him to miss away and with the railing Dawkins Bale on his outside, he is likely to find bother. He can obviously still win coming from off the speed but if Kayda Shae finds the lead I can't see him reeling him in.”

Odds to win the Cranbourne Puppy Classic: $2.50 with Bet365

Box Six – Dawkins Bale
Black Dog – 30.3kg – February 2013
x Bala Bale
Prize money: $132,258
Trainer: Andrea Dailly
Career: 36: 13-7-6
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.37

“Returned to his best with a powerful 30.37 heat win last week and if he can cross again tonight he should give a great sight at nice odds, but he does meet a much stronger lineup tonight and he can't afford to make any mistakes in the early stages. He has raced well in this company for quite a while now and if you're looking for value, he could be worth an each way ticket.”

Odds to win the Cranbourne Puppy Classic: $14 with Bet365

Box Seven – Blazin' Bomber
Black Dog – 32.5kg – November 2013
Kinloch Brae x Absolute Stunner
Prize money: $34,705
Trainer: Darren Pattinson
Career: 11: 9-1-1
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.19

“Exciting talent and he really impressed when he powered to the line here last week and scored in a slick 30.19. On pure ability, he is right up there with Kayda Shae and Dyna Double One, but he is still learning the caper and he doesn't have the same early dash as his rivals. From the wide draw he is going to need some luck in the run to the first turn, but if he does get it he is more than capable of winning. Highly promising and although I don't think he can win tonight he will make his presence felt during the spring carnival.”

Odds to win the Cranbourne Puppy Classic: $5.00 with Bet365

Box Eight – Diego Bale
Black Dog – 31.4kg – October 2013
Taylors Sky x
Prize money: $23,630
Trainer: Andrea Dailly
Career: 16: 7-3-1
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.41

“Diego Bale is a handy up and coming chaser and he will win his fair share of races in town. However, this is clearly a big step up in class for him and from the wide draw he is going to need some luck in the initial stages. Last week he was able to zip away mid race when there was some trouble behind him and that allowed him to steal the event. Tonight there is a lot underneath and I can't see him finding the early lead, so I don't think he can figure in the finish.”
