2016 Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic – best odds & free tips

RITZA Lenny is the favourite to take out this Saturday's 1 Peter Mosman Classic (520m) at after coming up with the prized rails draw.

Trained by Mark Gatt, the blue dog is the $2 favourite with Sportsbet and will be aiming to make it three in a row when he jumps in the $75,000 to the winner final, having clocked fast times in his heat (29.78) and semi (29.82) of the series.

A three time group finalist, the son of Barcia Bale and Lagoon Lowanna holds a fast 5.44 personal best first split at Wentworth Park, with a repeat sure to see him punching up towards the front in the charge around the first turn.

His biggest threat as far as bookmakers are concerned is El Magnifico for Bruce and Julie Fletcher at $3.40.

A winner of 10 from 18 overall, El Magnifico is one of the best young sprinters in the state and if he brings his A-game he will take a power of beating, having recorded a breathtaking 29.59 heat win two weeks ago

While he holds a perfect one from one from the extreme outside, he does appear to jump better when drawn closer to the fence, however the advantage of box eight is that he will get plenty of room to move and can wind up in the early stages.

Leading Victorian conditioner has two runners engaged in the final, with Buck Forty rated his best shot at $6.

The son of Buck Fever and Fancy Jaffa is ideally drawn towards the fence and he is capable of finishing strongly and running into some money with a bit of luck in the initial stages.

Thompson's other charge Invictus Rapid is the only other runner under double figure odds at $9.50, with the 12 time winner aiming to overcome the bad box four draw.

In his semi-final, the black dog showed good early toe and was far from disgraced when finishing four and one quarter lengths behind El Magnifico, however he won't be able to afford to do anything wrong in the feature final.

Team Dailly will be aiming to go back to back in the Classic when Shima Song ($12) jumps from box three.

The powerful Victorian kennel put the polish on champion sprinter Fernando Bale in last year's final, with their contender this year going into the final with four wins at her past five starts.

The other runners aren't given much of a chance by the bookies, with Tap Out Scarlet (box five) and Zambora Idol (box seven) both $31 chances, while Christine Proctor, who won the race in 2014 with Bessy Boo at double figure odds, rounds out the field with Runway Idole (box six) the rank outsider at $41.

The Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic is race eight on the card at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and is set to jump at 9:57pm.
