2016 Listed Northern Districts Cup – free tips & betting preview

PROVEN Kodiak is the favourite to win the Listed Northern Districts Cup (450m) at Shepparton on Friday night.

Installed as the $2.60 top elect from box four with Sportsbet, the son of Nitro Burst and Blue Pie Girl comes into the final having won three of his past four starts, all of which were in best of day times at Warragul (25.67 & 25.52) and Ballarat (25.41).

After missing the kick in his heat from box one last week, the black dog showed a great amount of tenacity to barge his way through the pack, going down by just half a length behind Hone In in 25.69.

A winner of 15 of his 39 starts, Proven Kodiak is the class runner of the race, having qualified for this year’s Group 2 Shepparton Cup final, with a win in Friday’s feature set to take his prize money earnings to over $49,000.

The best chance of toppling the favourite as far as bookmakers are concerned is Bear’s Luck which will jump from box seven.

The fawn dog defeated Eumeralla Donny (box two) in their qualifier on Monday night in a handy 25.48, with a repeat performance sure to see him figure in the finish.

Eddie Yap is one of the most consistent greyhounds in the final, having won 10 and placed on 15 occasions from 34 starts, with the son of El Grand Señor and Loretta West capable of showing good early speed in his races.

From box three he looks a realistic chance of landing on the bunny, but he will have to be at his absolute best to hold out a few smart ones at the finish.

The only other runner under double figure odds is Aston Kody at $9.50 with Crownbet, with the regally bred son of Collision and Aston Elle drawn in box six for the final.

A winner of three from nine overall, the youngster was the fastest heat winner on Monday, clocking 25.46, however he is drawn poorly for the $25,000 to the winner race and can’t afford to make any mistakes.

The youngest and most inexperienced chaser in the final is Hone In (box eight) – but despite this he is definitely one for the exotics. The red fawn dog should get plenty of room to win up from box eight and he is probably capable of going a bit quicker than his 25.59 win here on Monday.

Landmark must be respected off the one, with the September ’13 whelp being prepared by master conditioner Rob Britton, with the talented pooch a rough chance at $10.

Eumeralla Donny and Mary’s Entity round out the field at $21 and $34 respectively, with both greyhounds going to need a bit of luck to defeat a few of the top picks in this event.

The Listed Northern Districts Cup is race eight on the card at Shepparton on Friday night and is set to jump at 8:42pm.
