2017 Group 1 Peter Mosman heats – best bookmaker odds and tips

greyhound racing

EIGHT heats of the Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic (520m) will be run at Wentworth Park this Saturday night featuring some of the finest young greyhounds in training.

The favourite to win the final on June 17 is sensational Victorian bitch Up Hill Jill. The daughter of Premier Fantasy and Where’s Demonica is the $7 top elect with Sportsbet and will be aiming to secure her first group 1 victory after qualifying for three events at the highest level – the National Futurity, the Sapphire Crown and the Golden Easter Egg.

Also given leading chances are Group 2 Richmond Riches winner Mister Twister and boom pup Aston Dee Bee at $8 and $9 respectively.

The first four from each heat will progress through to next Saturday’s semi-finals, with the final on June 17 worth $75,000 to the winner.

CHASE THE CASH (6) won here last start in a slick 29.96 after a poor beginning. Needs to step better on Saturday night, but is capable of leading when she times the start right which will put her right in contention. Prior to that she had been racing in FFA and Non-Graded company well – so the class rise isn’t a concern – she just needs to get it right at the start to be winning.

CENTRAL BARK (1) looks a very promising youngster and he has been racing well at his past couple of starts at Bulli and Maitland. Returns to Wentworth Park where he has only won one from seven, but this is the first time he has drawn well at headquarters so it wouldn’t surprise to see him improve a bit.

RILEY TOKAAM (7) is a flying machine which is a last start 30.24 winner at Wentworth Park. Drawn closer to the fence I’d have him on top, but the wide draw causes a few issues as he isn’t a brilliant beginner.

FOREVER NEW (4) has strung together four wins from six starts in good time, but this is a big jump in class so it may be best just to watch her this week.

SWIFT RAIN (2) makes his Wentworth Park debut after spending almost three months on the sidelines. He brings some scintillating Maitland form to this race and he has been racing competitively against some top-line greyhounds. Box two should be ideal – if he can hold his spot on the fence in the early stages he will be finishing off strongly and looks a sneaky chance of pinching this race.

KING CARMODY (7) has won four of his past five including a nippy 29.66 triumph at The Gardens two starts back. Has a fair bit of speed and can cross from the wide draw if he brings his best.

PATCH ADAM (6) is a freak and if he begins well he should just be winning – but his box manners aren’t great at Wentworth Park so I am not keen to take the short odds from box six.

HARPERAMA (5) has a fair bit of ability – she is also a pretty good beginner and can put herself into a prominent spot early.

ASTON DEE BEE (2) has only had the one start at Wenty when finishing last behind Star Torana in a heat of the Golden Easter Egg. Since then he broke the track record at Bulli (25.78) and went close to the record at Maitland (24.74). Following that he had a couple of starts back in Victoria, winning his match of the Bill Collins Speed Star (29.32) and then finishing unplaced in a heat of the Harrison-Dawson before a BOD 25.12 effort at Shepparton. He doesn’t draw a decent box very often, so he should appreciate box two and he finds a winnable race here.

HUNTER’S CHARM (8) has been mixing her form recently but she has a stack of ability. She should miss trouble from the right and she has enough speed to cross over and punch up towards the lead around the first turn. If she finds a good spot she can run a nice race at good odds.

RED SOX ETHICS (3) won at Dapto four starts back in 29.58 and showed a glimpse of that ability at Wentworth Park when winning in 30.04 on May 17. Can be tardy early, but there isn’t a huge amount of pace in this race so she should be able to put herself in contention.

RITA’S BOY (4) has won two in a row at headquarters and, while the draw doesn’t help him, he has ability and should be respected.

UP HILL JILL (5) is the class runner of this field and she is good enough to overcome box five. She loves this track where she has a 29.63 personal best – she only needs to go close to that on Saturday night and she should be winning.

SON OF KATIE (7) is better than his recent form reads – he normally shows good early dash and he can work into the race from the wide draw. Not overly strong but can run a cheeky race and hold on for a placing.

ROYAL TURBO (4) hasn’t been seen in nearly a month, but he can race well fresh and a quick beginning puts him right in this race.

GLENGARRIE BOY (1) has good early toe and can improve on his past run where he missed the kick and never got into the race. Box one will give him every chance to hold his spot and push up into a good position.

MISTER TWISTER (7) has won three in a row including the $100,000 Richmond Riches last start. Better suited on the fence but can handle himself from a wide drawn and this race is not as hard as what he has been contesting. Has a good mix of speed and strength – expect him to be winning.

SCOTT NO IDEA (6) is blessed with enormous ability, but he is a big boy and takes a few strides to get going. If he can follow the favourite across he can run a cheeky race at decent odds.

CENTRICO (2) is a good dog on his night and looks well drawn in box two. Can be hit or miss early but there isn’t a huge amount of pace in this race so he should be able to find a nice spot and can feature in the placings.

CHARRUA (3) has missed the start at his past couple, but has a good turn of foot when he gets room to move and can play a part.

CHEVY KING (1) missed the kick last start but can be forgiven for that. He is one of the most promising greyhounds in the state and recently put together five wins in a row including a success in the Group 3 New Sensation where he clocked a sizzling 29.73. Has been freshened for this race and should be winning if he steps on terms.

CHASIN’ CRACKERS (3) bounced back onto the winner’s list with a 29.72 Sandown win on May 25. He is capable of going a lot quicker than that and with a fast beginning he could be a nuisance to the favourite.

KONG (6) is blessed with an enormous engine and, whilst he takes a while to get going, there isn’t a huge amount of speed drawn directly around him so he should get every chance to make an impact.

CRASH BANDICOOT (4) is a new addition to Anthony Azzopardi’s kennel – not a fast beginner but looks capable of breaking the 30-second barrier with a bit of luck.

ROHAN HILL (1) will appreciate being back at Wentworth Park after racing at The Meadows in recent weeks. Drawn well on the fence and holds a 29.76 personal best here. Needs to jump, but not a huge amount of speed on his outside so he won’t get too much pressure – just needs to get away well.

FALCON’S FURY (2) is one of the best dogs in the state – didn’t have much luck in the Wagga Cup final but can bounce back here with some luck. Has a tendency to miss the kick slightly, but he should get a clear run early.

COSMIC BONUS (7) has won two of his past three including a fast 29.83 win at Wenty last start. Probably better drawn closer to the fence but can handle a wide draw.

LAGOON RHETT (5) jumps massively in class but he looks a star in the making – two starts, two wins – both in sub 26 at Bulli. Box draw a concern but looks the real deal.

LUCKY CHAP (8) appears well positioned in box eight – he should get a trouble free run from the outside and will make his own luck out in front.

UNPRECEDENTED (3) has two BOD wins at Warragul beside his name at his two most recent outings. Has run some fast times in Victoria including a 29.37 Sandown Park win last month. Would not surprise to see him win.

FUSION GIRL (2) has a good overall record and is capable of getting around the 29.80 mark with luck. Box two suits – if she can begin well she should run well.

ZIPPING BRONCO (1) can be slow early but he has some solid Victorian and Bulli form to his name.
