Greyhound racing tips & best bets for Saturday 5th August 2017

Greyhound racing's best bets

Profitable day on the punt yesterday with Veracity and Desert Rampage both winning and winning well. Veracity (High Earner x Tantrum Dec ’15) broke 22 seconds for the 390m trip at Warrnambool at just his third start, and he is a greyhound whose career we’ll watch with great interest. Ran hard to the line and looks like he’ll have no issues with running out 450m races when the time comes to take that step.

Desert Rampage (Barcia Bale x Desert Spark Feb ’15) is at a very different stage of his career and his win last night was tradesman like; just worked overtime to grab the lead by the corner and put them away. Has more wins in him off good draws and wouldn’t bet against him putting five in a row on the picket fence.

The remarkable thing about yesterday’s racing was the prices we managed to secure about our winners. We had Veracity priced at $1.90 and Desert Rampage quoted at $1.80. Both greyhounds traded at much better odds, again helping us find value on our winning bets.

Of the two losing bets Brietta (Spring Gun x Little Bit Fancy May ’14) proved our theory right going around at ridiculous odds of $19 in a field that she was well up too. Only bad luck in running prevented her from finding a hole in the places at the finish line. Salvarotti (Kiowa Mon Manny x Ursula Jun ’15) did find a little interference, but was genuinely disappointing. Wait for him to show more before jumping on in the future.

So a nice profit of 2.8 units on yesterday’s greyhound tips and if Brietta had not run in to the back of the six greyhound on the home corner, that return would’ve been much higher. Overall August is starting to correct itself and while we aren’t in profit, we’ve sent 35 units around and have returned close to 27 units. A couple of our bets have fallen victim to bad luck in running, and a few we just got plain wrong in pricing or selection.

Only seven meetings to choose from today around the country, but we’ll do our best to find you value where we can.

The Meadows Greyhounds

Best Bet: Race 8 Box 1 Mystery Ride – Deposit $50 & bet with $150 on Topbetta’s Global Tote
Mystery Ride (Hot Grille x Space Power Jan’14) isn’t getting any younger, but is one of the most consistent beginners in training and is looking for his tenth win tonight over The Meadows 525m journey. Has come up with the rails draw and coupled with a typical 5.03 first section he should lead this field and prove too strong. Kilty Express from out in box seven is very quick early, and is likely to charge over from the wide draw and run cover for Mystery Ride who only has to push up on the rail and hold his position through the first corner to win.

Bulli Greyhounds

Best Bet: Race 5 Box 4 Champion Model – $500 Free Bet at Ladbrokes
Champion Model (High Earner x Clay Model May ’15) comes in to the Goulburn To Bulli final having won her past four in a row, including two wins here over the shorter 400m trip. She can be just a little flat footed from the boxes, but does have quick acceleration and with the reserve going in to the box inside, should get the room needed to get clear. Doesn’t look like the extra distance will cause her any issues at all, and we’ll be getting a little premium on the price due to the squeeze box draw. Had she drawn box one or eight, she would be $1.40 this field.

Cannington Greyhounds

Best Bet: Race 6 Box 4 Found A Diamond – Sportsbet $501 Sign Up Offer
Boom greyhound Found A Diamond (Turanza Bale x Miata Oct ’14) recently won nine on end, but was beaten last start at Mandurah after finding early trouble. Has stepped out of restricted company in to Free For All grade at past two starts, and has found himself in last position 100m after the boxes in both. On the first occasion he was able to overcome the start and run down West On Maisie to win, but last time out was set too hard of a task. Suspect he is a much better greyhound on the Cannington track, and has early pace to his outside and from two of the three inside greyhounds. Will be heart in mouth stuff through the first corner, but we will be getting a good price to play about a greyhound who will probably go on and win the National Sprint Championship Final should he get through tonight’s state heat. Look for him to rail up under them entering the back straight.
