With tonight's racing coming Geelong (Victoria), Warrnambool (Victoria), The Gardens (New South Wales), Ipswich (Queensland), and Cannington (West Australia), lets review our betting advice for those tracks.

Geelong is considered to be a safe punting track especially over the 457m distance. The 347m starts are usually plagued by interference and terrible betting races, box 1 is an advantage and box 3 has a good record of this trip. The few 600m races run can produce good results but the short run to 1st corner has caused more than one betting plunge to go astray and does give an advantage to the box 1 runner. Over the 457m boxes 1 and 8 both share favouritism with the next most preferred draw box 7.

Warrnambool was redeveloped in 2008 to remove much of the bias and interference that occurred on the old “egg” shaped track. Unfortunately while interference has been reduced, “transition turns” have turned the track in to a leader biased procession. In almost all races the winner comes from the greyhound in front about 50m from the boxes. Only strong railing greyhounds can make ground from behind and wide runners are decidedly disadvantaged. The red box is favoured over all distances.

The Gardens is one of New South Wales' newest tracks and now the sole home of the . The track strongly favours early speed dogs but the 413m races should be avoided at all costs as they are decided more by interference than ability. The 515m races are worth betting on but the inside 3 boxes are all favoured and even good dogs will find it hard to cross from wide draws. The 600m trip, being a corner, start can often pose a difficult greyhound betting option and the inside box is a huge advantage. Few races are run over the 715m journey.

Ipswich can be a punters graveyard and as a general rule punters avoid investing in the 431m races unless you are laying them on Betfair, as the corner starts throws up many unlikely winners and lots of interference. If you must bet on these races, box 1 wins almost twice as many races as every other box with the exception of the second best box, box 2. The 520m races are a little more even, but have a decided bias toward the four inside boxes due to the short run to the corner and even class greyhounds find it hard to win from wide boxes. The 630m races are another corner start.

Cannington is one of the better two tracks which does tend to give greyhounds off the speed a chance to run on. Both the 530m, and 642m distances the inside boxes and the 1 box has a slight advantage over the 715m distance. The 297m races, starting at the top of the back straight, runs reasonably fairly, although box 1 is an advantage. The four inside boxes are advantaged over the 530m, the three inside boxes over the 642m and the 715m races reasonably evenly.

Geelong Greyhounds – Race 5 – Box 1 – Spell Book

Geoff Mitchell's bag of tricks has certainly been working lately, winning races left, right and centre including the with Jean Jeannie. Spell Book sarts here for him and has won 4 of 8 races to date with 2 minors and has run 24.16 at Warragul. Has started twice from box 1 for 2 wins and looks ideally placed and drawn.

Warrnambool Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 6 – Mirella Bale

Mirella Bale has been out of form for some time having not won since June 2009 but has started here at Geelong just the once for a win and should be suited by the outside box draw. Will have to take on trust but has won at Warrnambool in 25.65 and Sandown in 30.06, so just needs to show that ability.

The Gardens Greyhounds – Race 6 – Box 8 – Zaccary Right

Speedy Zaccary Right looks extremely well placed here after 6 starts at have netted her 3 wins and a third with a PB of 25.45. Has to contend with box 8 but is another of the Collision progeny and has plenty of early toe. In the more than capable hands of Ron Bell who also starts tardy beginner Lady Effie from box 7 in this race, which just enhances the chances of Zaccary Right.

2009 Group 2 Ipswich Auction Series Semi Final 1 – Ipswich Greyhounds – Race 4 – Box 2 – Gnarraloo

Mal Dawson's Gnarraloo looks the best of good things off box 2 in this first semi final of the Highland Smash Repairs Ipswich Auction Series coming in to the race after a first up third last week in the heats from this same box. Will be improved by the first up run for 3 months and has a good record here of 3 wins and 2 placings from 9 starts. Looks the class runner.

2009 Group 2 Ipswich Auction Series Semi Final 2 – Ipswich Greyhounds – Race 5 – Box 8 – Santino Marella

Santino Marella could not be better boxed out wide here as a strong chaser who should be able to finish over the top of Surfin' Silence. Ran the best of this lot last week in the heats runing 30.85 coming from off the pace after being beatne for pace early. Expect the same to happen here again but doubt there's anything in this race that can hold him off.

2009 Group 2 Ipswich Auction Series Semi Final 3 – Ipswich Greyhounds – Race 6 – Box 8 – Blue Storm Miss

Tough race but youngster Blue Storm Miss might just be the winner here after her 30.83 heat win from box 6 last week. Has faced the starter only 5 times for the 3 wins but has already notched a 30.09 Albion Park effort next to her name. Tends to either win well or run nowhere so box 8 should give her every advantage to lead up early and make it 4 form 6.
