Sandown Park greyhounds form, tips & betting preview May 21, 2015

AN excellent night of greyhound racing awaits at Park tonight, featuring the final of the world's richest staying event, the Group 1 Sandown Cup, which appears to be at the mercy of Robert Britton's Space Star, currently the $1.22 favourite with William Hill.

Also on the card is the Memorial which consists of a field as good as any Group race you could imagine. Six Group winners will line up in the feature including dual Group 1 winner Dyna Villa and country cup king Luca Neveelk. However, all eyes will be on champion sprinter , going for his tenth straight win and possibly the when he exits the cherry.

With a night ahead, lets get into our selections for the meeting courtesy of our resident tipster, Brad Bugeja.

Armed And Ready has always shown enormous potential and he showed last time out that he is somewhere near his best. On the occasion he showed dazzling mid race speed and he led until the shadows of the post when placed in blistering time. If he can step cleanly tonight and hold them out he should be able to lead from go to whoa.

Dyna Yemen is a strong type and although he is badly drawn he still must be respected. There isn't a whole lot of speed around him so he should be afforded a clear run in the early stages and he is a class act on his day.

Gangnam Style turned in a terrific performance when placed here two runs back and if he pings the lids he should give a great sight again, he is better suited to a middle distance but he is really sprinting well at present.

Dyna Alchemist could be the value. He is much better than his recent form suggests and if he happens to find the rail in the early stages he could make a strong move mid race and he is capable of winning a race like this.

Tough race but I think if Texas Star can roll to the early lead he might be able to steal the race. He is the only reliable beginner in this race and with his great mid race speed he should be able to build up a very nice lead. The last 50-metres is going to be a concern but he has been placed over this journey previously and this race really lacks depth.

Time Dimension returned to the winners list at Sale last time out but he is not very reliable and he does take a long time to wind up. If he happens to get the breaks mid race he is a genuine winning chance, however he does find a lot of trouble so it might be worth anchoring him for second and third in your exotic bets.

Hashtag Yolo was solidly placed at Sale two runs back and he should be in the mix for a long way. He has only won the one race from 18 starts but that win was over a similar distance at Cranbourne and the time was very good. If he goes around at silly odds he could be worth an each way ticket.

Dancing Pumps rounds out the chances, she should settle in the top three early and although she isn't overly strong she could hang on for a place.

Kerrigan Bale is stepping up in distance for the first time and this is what she might need to boost her confidence. She has been missing away over the shorter journey of late and therefore she has been finding trouble in the early stages. With a lack of speed around her tonight she should be able to fire to the early lead and when on the lure she is capable of running impressive sectionals. There is some doubt about her last 40-metres but if she finds the top she should have a nice lead mid race and she can hang on.

Cosmic Wise is a class act and she has a great record over this journey. Her form doesn't read well of late but she is much better than that and she has a dazzling 33.91 PB over this trip. I'm expecting her to settle in the top three early and she should make an impact.

Lakerville can make a lot of mistakes in his races but he does have a lot of talent and this distance range should suit him. He was solidly placed at on Saturday over the 600-metres in strong company and he should be thereabouts again.

There is a lot of early speed in this race and it could be tough to find the winner, however I think Dyna Nico will have enough speed to get across and that should see her get the cash. She has been racing in terrific style of late and she has been taking on some gun sprinters. She will appreciate the class drop tonight and she should be able to lead from go to whoa.

Lektra Outlaw has turned in two very strong performances here in recent weeks when placed and he should be able to come across with the eight in the early stages. If he is close enough to her mid race he could give her a scare as they reach the winning post.

Lektra Utopia has the good draw and he is also armed with early speed. If he can hold out Dyna Nico early then he is a great winning chance, however, if she crosses him, he will struggle to win and at best he might be able to hold onto third spot.

Ballerino has the class edge and if given a clear passage he would prove too strong but from the poor draw tonight he is going to need a lot of things to go his way in running.

Very even affair but if Sisco Rage can do everything right at box rise he should be winning from the red. He is an extremely consistent chaser and he loves racing around this circuit. Two starts back he turned in a monster performance when narrowly beaten by Weston East and if he can turn in a similar effort here tonight he should prove too strong for his rivals.

Mepunga Armagh is a reliable beginner and he too has a great record here. I'm expecting him to lead them up for a long way and that should see him take home some prize money.

Whodat Knockin' is poorly drawn out wide but he is blessed with terrific track sense and he is never far away in this company. If he can work his way across to the rail without finding too much bother he should be right in the mix as they turn for home.

Repayments has a big engine but he can do a lot wrong in his races, if he can avoid trouble in the first 50-metres then he is a serious winning chance but I'm a little concerned about the speed drawn around him.

Fernando Bale is an absolute beast and from the red it really is hard to see him being beaten. He has broken the five second barrier to the first marker in his past three wins here and his rivals simply can't keep up with him. There is a little bit of speed drawn in the middle but he should have no trouble holding them out and it will be interesting to see if he can break the 29 second barrier for the second time.

Usain I'm Nutty is a powerful chaser and he will be steaming home at the end. He didn't have a lot of luck behind Fernando Bale here last week and I'm expecting an improved performance. Obviously he can't reel the leader in but he could grab the quinella spot and add some value.

Weston East was far from disgraced when beaten by Fernando Bale here last week by only three lengths and a repeat performance would see him figure in the placings. The only concern tonight is that he has a fair bit of speed drawn directly underneath so he might not get a clear run in the early stages.

Luca Neveelk and Dyna Villa are both stars and they can figure in the placings if they happen to ping away.

Dzeko was desperately unlucky when placed in a heat of the Sandown Cup here last week and she should be able to make amends tonight. She finds herself in a race which really lacks genuine early speed so if she can step cleanly she should be in the firing line from the outset and she should put them away mid race. She has a breathtaking 41.55 PB here and a similar run would see her win with ease tonight.

Tears Siam can be a little inconsistent but she is a sister to Space Star and she is a talented stayer in her own right. She is suited to the wide draw tonight and if she settles in the first half of the field she should be able to figure in the placings.

Julie Bale can show early speed in her races and she may lead them a merry dance, she isn't overly strong but if they happen to shuffle up behind her she may be able to steal the prize.

Beks is the only other winning prospect, he has been a handy stayer for quite a while now and he is always thereabouts in this type of company.

Space Star is a jet and from the pink he appears to be an absolute moral. He has won his past five starts in explosive fashion and last time out he blew them away in an eye popping 41.26. That is easily the fastest run we have seen over this journey for quite some time and if he steps away cleanly he should be on the lure and he will get every chance to repeat his heat winning effort. He will be unbackable odds so it is best to just anchor him upfront in your exotic bets.

Sweet It Is turned in a herculean performance when winning here last week in 41.82 and with a clear passage tonight she could test the favourite, however her racing pattern suggests that she will find trouble in running and the quinella spot does look best.

Lady Toy is another great stayer and she deserves to win a race like this but from the middle pin she is likely to give the pink too big of a head start and therefore a minor placing appears to be a good result for her.

Love Affair could be the value for the place. She hit the line well in her heat and if they happen to shuffle up in front of her she could run over the top late and sneak into the placings.

My Zephyr is a reliable beginner and she has won here previously in a solid 29.65. Last time out she returned to form with a slick 29.70 heat win at Sale and if she can find the top in the early stages she should prove too good for her rivals. The box draw is a slight concern but she has handled herself well from awkward draws in the past.

Lakeview Harley should come across with the six in the early stages and he should be in the mix for a long way. He has turned in some terrific performances at Sale of late and he deserves a shot in town.

Canino is the most talented chaser in the event and she appears suited to the wide draw. The only problem with her is that she has a mind of her own and the slightest knock will see her turn it up.

Vulcan Rose rounds out the chances, she has come up with the good draw and with a clean getaway she could be in the mix for a long way.

Yeates Bale appears to be the real deal and he should be able to atone for his two luckless efforts here of late. He is normally a very reliable beginner and he does into overdrive soon after box rise. There is very little speed drawn underneath him so he should get every chance to cross and assume control early.

Grand Intention has a massive engine and if given clear running he will probably win. Last week he used the red draw to advantage when scoring in a slick 29.49 and he must be respected again, the only concern is if he can get across from his wide draw.

Harden Bale should be suited to the rails draw and he is a must for your exotics, he has been placed here on five occasions and outside of the seven and eight this isn't an overly strong race.

Dashing Roman rounds out the place prospects, she has the speed to lead for a long way and she could hang on for some minor money.

Lektra Concord is a classy speedster and he loves racing around this circuit having won five of his 12 tries. There is a bit of speed drawn around him tonight but if he gets away cleanly he should have the speed find the early lead and he is a very hard chaser to get past when he is on the lure. He should be around the $3.50 mark and that is great value.

Cosmic Yap turned in a great performance when winning at The Meadows two runs back in 29.96. The red draw should suit tonight and if he settles behind the two early he should make it interesting as they approach the winning post.

Dyna Brainiac can be hard to follow but he is a talented chaser when on song, he is likely to get back early here but he will hit the line hard and he is a must for your exotic bets.

Crackerjack Burn has claims but he must lead to have any chance, whilst Zeppelin Bale is dropping in class and he could be value for the place.

Eyes Adorable isn't the strongest of chasers but she is extremely reliable at box rise and she should be able to set up a nice lead mid race. Back in March/April she scored back to back Meadows wins over a similar trip and I think she might be able to steal the prize tonight. She is going to be close to double figure odds and she is worth an each way ticket.

Senor Grumpy is a gifted chaser and with a clear run he would be winning, however he does bomb the start in his races and he will need a lot go right in the middles stages for him to win. He is a class act though so he must be respected.

Splash Mountain has a good record here and he will be in the mix in the early stages. He returned to form with a good 25.84 Geelong win last time and he could make it back to back wins.

Yaris Bale has the good draw and she must be included. She is having her first look at the track tonight but with some luck at the first bend she can make an impact.

Top Four: 3 – 8 – 6 – 1
