Thursday tips for Australian greyhound racing 17th August 2017

ELECTRICAL lighting issues brought Ballarat greyhounds to an abrupt halt last night after race one, so three of our five best were never given the opportunity to face the starter leaving us with just seven units yesterday. Over at a very wet Mt Gambier greyhound track Maximum Bella (Magic Sprite x Lil's Memory Jul '13) did not get away very well and then found trouble in the run so no result there.

However up at a sunny Albion Park, Ailla (Magic Sprite x Mon Cherie Feb '14) rewarded our persistence with a determined third at over 40/1. She was well away but immediately checked back to second last but somehow managed to run down the pack from that position entering the home straight. The change of track has clearly done the job for us and looking forward to seeing her out of more ground at the same track. On the punting ledger, our two units each way there managed to return us a mammoth 19.8 units from the $9.90 a place that was on offer SP.

Lid Pinger (Fabregas x Gut Wrenching Sep '15) bounced back from a bad fall at Maitland two starts ago, to put that out of his head and win dominantly at the same track leading almost all the way in 22.52 over 400m. Steps back to 450m today looking for his fourth win from seven starts, but importantly has won from box seven when drawn out wide previously. Looks the natural leader, and we can't make an argument for anything to run him down having already posted a 25.53 win over the trip and sure to have improved since that win.

Sticking with the trend of finding a couple on the Victorian one turn tracks, and we're sticking solid with a couple of young greyhounds that are racing very consistently and have done the job in the past for us.

Metallic Zip (Barcia Bale x Gold Affair Two Dec '15) is a litter brother to Hoo Gur Affair and Angela Langton has done a good job placing Metallic Zip who has won four of his six career starts. Was tested over the Sandown 515m distance on Sunday at his last start, making his debut at a two turn track; and after leading early compounded late to just get run down. Starts from the same box here tonight, should again be able to lead and will find the 450m and one turn track at Warrnambool much more to his liking based on his performances at Ballarat. Small field does his chances no harm at all.

Holloway (Barcia Bale x Zoenah's Entity May '15) beat some very handy types including Mandelbaum in his recent Bendigo 1-4 final win taking his record to five wins from seven starts. Importantly he has drawn box eight in four of those seven runs and is unbeaten from the extreme outside draw where he finds himself tonight. Has some pace drawn on the inside tonight, but we think they will likely get in each others way while Holloway will be used to using the open space of box eight and can capitalise on any trouble.
