2014 Group Three SA Oaks Preview

The heats of the Group Three Oaks kick off at on Thursday night. The series caters for the best female greyhounds whelped on or after March 1, 2012. The race carries a purse of $25,000.

A number of talented Victorian trained bitches will make their way to Adelaide to compete in the four heats, the most notable being recent Group One Maturity winner Mepunga Hayley.

Here's a look at the four heats;

Heat One – Group Three Oaks (Race 5 at 8:08pm)

Mepunga Hayley (1) has drawn the coveted rails alley and has a perfect record from the box, winning three from three. She has trialled around Angle Park in 29.85. Since her Maturity victory, the and Mepunga Harmony (Pure Octane – Mepunga Shiraz) bitch has stepped up to 600m racing with good success. She steps back in distance for this but class always shines through and she should go well.

Talented NSW chaser Frattini (2) arrives at Angle Park with a 29.80 trial under her belt. The Christine Oldfield trained bitch by Collision and Dusty Retreat (Spiral Nikita – Undermatched) has had six wins from eight career starts with fast wins around (26.28) and Dapto (29.63). This is a step up in class for her and her best form also appears to be from outside boxes.

If you were looking for a local chaser to take a punt on, the two best South Australian chances appear to be Emerley Senorita (8) and Mobius (6). Emerley Senorita has a tonne of experience around the track with eight wins from 35 starts at Angle Park. Her best time is 29.89 but she's only had the one win from box eight from four attempts. All three wins of Mobius' career have been at Angle Park with a best of 29.84. She is a lightly raced bitch that isn't flash early but runs homes strongly.

Heat Two – Group Three Oaks (Race 6 at 8:28pm)

The locals are a big hope in this heat with Beautiful Grace (1). The Collision and Koombooyana Star ( Rush – Koombooyana) bitch has four wins and one placing from five starts. She has won twice at Angle Park, recording a personal best of 29.91. She has good early speed and is expected to do well.

Group One place-getter Oakvale Flyer (4) recorded 29.94 in a recent trial around the track. The Vapour Whirl and Foot Luce (Hallucinate – Scarlett) bitch is owned by South Australian and she will give them a good chance of making the final. Overall she has won eight from 24 and has won twice wearing the blue rug. If she can begin well she may prove too hard to catch.

There's a bit of speed drawn out wide courtesy of Honky Tonk Doll (7) and White Spyro (8). White Spyro was a finalist in the Group Two earlier this year. The draw shouldn't worry her but she does need to lead to be a chance. Honky Tonk Doll has won four at the track and been placed on six other occasions. She has a best of 29.82 and is capable of causing an upset.

Lamia Bale (3) is worthy of some consideration. The Group One Maturity finalist is a last start winner at in 29.54.

Heat Three – Group Three Oaks (Race 7 at 8:52pm)

The Group One Sapphire Crown winner Oakvale Destiny (2) got a look at the track last week, finishing two and a half lengths behind Kalden Gambino in a Free-For-All event. She will need to improve on that effort this week but if she runs up to her best she should win comfortably.

Spicy Peppa (6) has had just the six starts, winning four of them. She is a good beginner that has won four at the track with a best time of 30.00. If she can display her good early toe she will give the field something to chase.

Spring Amanda (4) has recently stepped up to staying events so she will drop back in distance for this race. She has a best time of 29.59 to her credit. She is capable of leading but it will be interesting to see what effect running over the longer distance will have on her and whether she can show the pace needed to lead a sprint event. In any event, she should be running on.

Miss Sueko (7) is a NSW chaser that has been placed just once in her last four starts. She trialled at Angle Park in 29.96. She has won six races in her career with the stand-out being a 29.67 victory at Wentworth Park in July.

Boojerooma (1) has been very consistent and is right in this race with the good draw.

Heat Four – Group Three Oaks (Race 8 at 9:11pm)

No less than five Victorian bitches feature in the final heat. Samus Allen (2), a black bitch by Bekim Bale and ( – Hanicka Bale) has won 11 from 17 and in her last five starts has recorded the best time of the night at Cranbourne (30.09) and The Meadows (29.99). She will definitely be in the market.

Eliza Blanche (6) has won five from nine career starts in Victoria and has trialled 30.10 at Angle Park in preparation. She will need some luck in the early stages from the awkward draw.

The best South Australian hopes are Footluce Diva (7) and Manila Express (8). Both have won at the track and from their respective boxes. They have also both recorded a best of 29.81 at the track.
