Devon Meadows trainer Glenn Rounds made it back-to-back Group Two Great Chase wins when All Strung Out took out the 2014 $45,000 to-the-winner event at The Meadows on Wednesday afternoon.
All Strung Out is a son of Bekim Bale and Casey’s Angel (Spiral Nikita – Leprechaun Yap) and a half brother to the 2013 winner Living Proof (by Collide).
It was a much deserved win for the 32kg black dog who had been knocking on the door after two Group placings at Wentworth Park, including a recent second in the Group One Peter Mosman final.
It also continues the great success that Rounds has had with the litter which also includes Group Three Sportingbet Magic Maiden winner Anything Less.
Beginning third from box eight, All Strung Out was well served after having some room to move early as expected leader Top Secret (7) carved to the fence to lead from Darcy’s Entity (3).
The trio raced down the back in that order well clear of the field and as they left the straight to round the home turn, All Strung Out’s strength became evident as he began to reel in the two leaders.
By the time they swung into the home straight, the 25-month-old dog had the race parcelled up as he exploded to the front to win by 3 1/4 lengths pulling away in the time of 30.04. Top Secret finished a clear second, with Darcy’s Entity 2 1/2 lengths away in third.
The winner also landed $7,000 for community group Connecting Skills Australia, who were paired with All Strung Out as part of the Great Chase initiative.
Of the beaten brigade, it may pay to overlook the run of Dewana Result (4) who was the short-priced favourite. His tardy box manner were always a concern and, when he missed the start and found a wall of greyhounds in front of him, he ran into a myriad of dead ends.
The win was All Strung Out’s sixth from 16 outings and takes his career earnings beyond $93,000.
