Hot Irish Awarded Australia’s Best Greyhound In October 2012

AGRA’s Greyhound of the Month for October 2012 is brilliant Western Australian sprinter Hot Irish. Raced by Damon Fardig and trained by Ben Abercrombie.

Hot Irish has raced 55 times for 30 wins, her wins include an outstanding performance in the Group 2 WA All Stars Sprint last Saturday night. Plus back in February she won the Group 3 Perth Cup Consolation. Her efforts in October earned her the AGRA Greyhound of the Month award.

Hot Irish started three times in October for as many wins she opened with a Free For All win on October 13 when she led all the way from box one to beat Mini Emily in a best of the night 30.41 for the 530 at Cannington.

A week later in her heat of the All Stars she again led but was passed by smart Victorian Hurunui Hitman coming again she raced away to win, again in the fastest time of the night 30.29.

In the final Hot Irish made the Group 2 a one act affair leading all the way from her favourite box 8 in another best of the night effort of 30.28.

That time of 30.28 and the winning margin of 5 lengths ahead of Big Jo King and Vocal Enforcer will now see Abercrombie and Fardig tackle the world’s richest greyhound race the Melbourne Cup with heats on November 15 and the final on the 22nd.

The Sandown Club made the All Star Sprint winner exempt from having to compete in a Prelude series and if nominated they gain a saloon passage into the heats with a chance of making the final where prize money is the richest ever offered $500,000. Hot Irish has an impeccable record over the 530 metres at Cannington she has started there 45 times for 27 wins and 13 placings. Her latest Group 2 win is likely to see Hot Irish firm in calculations for the 2012 WA Greyhound of the Year award.
