Magnifique Sets The Standard In Bulli Gold Cup Heats

Magnifique will go out a short priced favourite in the Ranvet Gold Cup at Bulli on Wednesday night after his resounding heat win in the slick time of 26.19.

Trained at Menangle by Julie Fletcher Magnifique began quickly in his heat and raced away to defeat Awesome Hustler by four lengths whilst Ah Well finished a further four and three quarter lengths away in third position.

Magnifique, drawn the three alley and with two relatively slow beginners in the boxes beside him, should be in front early and will take some catching if he gets there.

Accounts, trained by Christine Oldfield is the second fastest qualifier (26.37), scoring a strong finishing win over Cool Flight and Last Man Out. Accounts will start from box seven in the final, the same box he had in the heat.

The other heat winner was Mutt Lange which came home very strongly to defeat the early leader Youtar Warrior by two and a quarter lengths in 26.43, which is his best performance over the 472 metres trip at Bulli.

Bookmaker Grant Hamilton has installed Magnifique 4/6 favourite ahead of Accounts 5/1, Cool Flight 7/1, Youtar Warrior & Last Man Out 8/1, Awesome Hustler 12/1, Ah Well & Mutt Lange 25/1.
