Millennium’s 2009 Group 2 Queensland Futurity

Part-owner Vicki Smith reckoned what was good enough for Seona Hood was good enough for her. Late last year Victorian Seona celebrated her birthday on the same day as El Galo won the Group 1 Brisbane Cup at Albion Park.

Last Thursday night, Vicki was also celebrating her birthday and her star bitch Millennium landed the Group 2 (520m). Millennium ($6.00) (Hallucinate-In My Dreams) scored running away by four lengths over Whirly Storm ($12.00) with a half head to ($5.50) a luckless third.

The winner is trained by Vicki's partner Greg Brennan and half owned by their close friend Mark Rowe.

And to top off the celebrations, Greg and Vicki's son Dylan celebrates his 10th birthday today.

Dylan had already put in for a more expensive present by the time Millennium was coming off the track after her victory.

The bitch took her record to 11 wins in 23 starts and she has always been a high class, but luckless galloper.

She has also lived in the shadow of her litter brother who has been earning all the praise while Millennium has been winning races.

Immediate plans for Millennium include the Group 1 at Wentworth Park. The heats will be run this Saturday.

“I think she is going to make a great middle distance bitch and maybe even a stayer,” said Greg after the victory.

“But we've got a few other things to chase first.”

It was the biggest victory in Brennan's training career.

He had previously run unplaced in the 2007 Futurity with his former smart staying bitch Kath's A Star.

Brennan said he was confident of victory in the final “or as confident as I could be in a Group race with such classy opposition”.

“I was hoping Whirly Storm would make the race for me,” said Brennan.

“She is always reliable out and likes to use a bit of the track. Millennium only had to get into second to take advantage of that run.

“And that's what she did.”

Whirly Storm showed what a great bitch she is by finishing second … in her fourth Group final.

And Next Top Model was an amazing performance being knocked down early and coming from last to get third and narrowly miss second.

Favourite Magic was not well away and although fighting on well in the straight, she wound up fifth.

After the placed runners the field finished in the following order 4th ($6.50), 5th Digital Magic ($1.70 fav), 6th ($8.00), 7th ($12.00) and That's My Missus ($4.20).

Millennium is a Red Fawn bitch whelped July 2006 by Hallucinate from In My Dreams (Token Prince x Diego Dancer). She is raced by Vicki Smith and trained by Greg Brennan of South Maclean in Queensland. Millennium has won 11 from 23 and with the $25,000 first prize for the Futurity it took her current stake earnings to $35,390.
