St Pierre Named March 2011 Greyhound Of The Month

's Greyhound of the Month for March is New South Wales owned and Tasmanian trained sprinter St. Pierre. In March St. Pierre scored a carreer best performance to account for an outstanding field in the final of the 1 Australian Cup at .

St. Pierre caused a huge boilover starting at the outsiders odds at $16.80 as many observers felt he may not be up to the class of the field.

However the son of and Paris St Germain jumped very well from box two, but was immediately under siege, with favourite ($2.00) ranging up ominously on the first turn.

But the blue-brindle chaser showed his mettle, holding the fence and kicking clear as he reached the second section in 17.75.

With High Earner and Mid Levels bumping as they neared the home turn St. Pierre a race winning lead, eventually upsetting his more fancied rivals to win one of Australia's premier races in 29.90.

After winning the Cup St. Pierre returned home to Tasmania for two more wins in Invitation class at Launceston on March 21st and 28th.

St. Pierre next racing assignment will be in the heats of the Group 1 at Wentworth Park in Sydney on Saturday night, with the semis on April 16 and the final worth $250,000 to the winner on Easter Saturday night the 23rd of April.

St. Pierre is a Blue Brindle Dog whelped December 2007 by Surf Lorian from Paris St Germain (Bright Ebony x Gold Serenade) he is raced by Christopher Nutt and trained by Debbie Cannan at Mangalore in Tasmania. St. Pierre has raced 62 times for 23 wins and 17 placings and his overall stake earnings stand at $241,200.

The month of March has seen a number group races decided. St. Pierre beat Group 1 winner Bobby Boucheau, plus Group 2 winners Slick Lee, Decembrist, Imposing Jett, , Bogie King and Dance A Jig who were all up for the monthly award.
