Star Recall Steals The Show In Mandurah Cup Heats

All eyes were on Star on Friday night in the heats of the Three . The Linda Britton trained sprinting sensation clocked the fastest heat time as well as a personal best time of 27.12. Star Recall wasn't the only chaser from the Britton camp to perform well in the heats with Gomes, Proven Will and Burundi all making it through to next weeks $25,000 final.

Heat One –

The first heat of the night was an open betting affair with holding favouritism paying $3.40, with Proven Will ($4.00) and Luba Monelli ($4.80) also fancied in the market.

Thunder Rama was last out of the boxes with Premier Fun (box one) taking charge in the early stages. It was only a matter of time before Thunder Rama showcased his explosive speed, zooming around the outside of the field to just before the 300 metre boxes. Meanwhile Proven Will and Four Paw Glory (box seven) had plenty of work to do after getting caught at the rear of the field. As Thunder Rama hit the home straight Proven Will began to make his run, just missing out on the win by a head, with Premier Fun holding onto third and Back Jack Tewin (box six) appearing late in the race to finish fourth. Thunder Rama made his sixth start at the track an important one in a time of 27.62, securing his rug in next weeks Cup final.

Heat Two –

Linda Britton had the three favourites in the second heat of the Mandurah Cup, Burundi ($2.10), My Mate Cobber ($2.65) and Living Proof ($5.50). Cup winner Cosmic Rambo was scratched from the field providing Max Julien's Deputy Chief a run in the heat from box five.

Burundi made the most of box one after missing the start, he sat on the rails and it was only a matter of time before he stole the lead from My Mate Cobber (box three) and Jill Haig (box eight). As Burundi extended his lead Cee Sheen (box two) worked into second place, but it was all over with Burundi finishing in first place in a time of 27.41. Cee Sheen held onto second with My Mate Cobber and Deputy Chief rounding out the minor placing's.

Heat Three –

Last years Mandurah Cup winner Te Amo started as $2.15 favourite from box three in the third heat with 's Last Day a well supported second favourite to take out the race from box eight.

The field jumped evenly at box rise with the noticeable difference being Te Amo slow out. Last Day took advantage of Te Amo's absence at the front of the field, shooting around outside to take the lead. Egotistical (box six) challenged early on but quickly tailed out of the race with El Deseo (box seven) and Gomes (box one) taking his place. Last Day finished first across the line in a time of 27.41 despite a late charge from Gomes in his 100th start. El Deseo and One Banana (box two) finished third and fourth respectively.

Heat Four –

There was no stopping $1.40 favourite Star Recall from claiming her run in next weeks Group Three Mandurah Cup. The speedy bitch led from start to finish in a super slick time of 27.12, just outside Back Jack Tewin's 27.08 record. West On Santo and Bluey's Fate worked hard through the field to finish in second and third position with Classic Sahara rounding out the placing's.

Heat Five –

Ozzie Bullet (box two) and Astronomic (box eight) shared favouritism in the last heat of the night with Houdini Monelli (box one) starting around the $4.00 mark.

The field jumped in an even line as the boxes opened and Victoria Keeping (box seven) was the first chaser to have her nose in front. Ozzie Bullet met Astronomic on the rails after crossing from the outside of the track. Astronomic went to make a lunge at the lead but was clipped on the corner by Ozzie Bullet allowing Houdini Monelli to sneak through on the rails and nab the victory in a time of 27.73. Astronomic pushed through to finish second, with Ozzie Bullet and Cheeky Bling (box four) rounding out the first four.
