The small hamlet of Ettrick near Kyogle is home to the last two Charcoal Inn Casino Cups with Within Site taking out this years event. Gazza Shiraz won last years Cup for Ettrick owner and breeder, Terry Jordan.
The pundits had it right this year though as most predicted Within Site, the co record holder over 411 metres, would lead and be hard to beat.
This is just what occurred, and with plenty of scrimmaging behind her, Within Site had a winning break as the went into the back. She greeted the judge some five and a half lengths in front of the second placed greyhound Kamikaze Magpie, with the veteran Amazing Phantom 1 1/2 lengths away in third place.
Within Site is owned and trained by Darryl and Susan Schafer, and was purchased from local trainer Robert Andrews for breeding purposes. Being only 2 1/2 years of age she was kept in training, and the $15,000 first prize for this Group Three event, certainly covered her purchase price. She loves the grass circuit at Casino where she has won ten races. I guess the upcoming Lismore Cup may be on the agenda for this daughter of Collision / With Integrity.
Five heats of the Westlawn Sprint were run, and with little between the finalists on times, next Friday’s final should be some spectacle. Fastest qualifier was Rapid Puzzle who came home with a late run to clock 23.01 for Charlie Northfield. Next best was Farmer’s Image who went straight to the front and ran 23.12 for Janice Mc Lean. Dellemma Solved took over down the side and ran 23.16 for Tracey Baynham, whilst Hi Sandy got up in the last stride to clock 23.17 for Pat Lavis. Miss Lyndan rounded off the heat winners when she railed through on the circle to record a 3 3/4 length win in 23.23 for John Watts and the aforementioned Terry Jordan.
In other events Happy Hopper returned to his “happy hunting ground” to win the Free For All in a fast 22.85; Our Movie Star led all of the way in the distance event running 36.03 for Reg Hazelgrove, and Night Marc stormed home to land the prize for Stephen Keep in 27.75.
To top off a good day for punters the well fancied and well boxed She Rose Hi scored in the “lucky last” running 27.55 for Trevor Thompson.
