Betfair Consolidates Its Association With NSW Greyhound Racing

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) today announced Betfair as the naming rights sponsor of the NSW Greyhound of the Year awards for the next two years and the NSW Blue Paws Breeders and Owners Incentive Scheme.

The partnership also secures Betfair as the official betting exchange partner of GRNSW for the next two years.

In making the announcement via www.thedogs.com.au, GRNSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan said the arrangement would assist in growing the wagering appeal of NSW greyhounds across all domestic markets while strengthening our presence internationally.

“A partnership with Betfair makes business sense,” Mr Hogan said.

“Based on recent figures, 75% of Betfair’s account holders trading on NSW greyhound races reside outside of NSW which exposes our product to a wider marketplace.

“GRNSW and Betfair are like minded organisations, our approach to business is similar and this has long term benefits for the sport going forward.

Betfair Blue Paws has conducted more than 8,500 bonus races since its inception in July 2006 and has paid out more than $850,000 worth of bonuses to owners of Betfair Blue Paws nominated greyhounds.

The partnership will include all off course promotional rights for the Betfair Greyhound of the Year and Betfair Blue Paws for the duration of the agreement including all collateral, website and public relations opportunities.

GRNSW and Betfair have also signed an Integrity Deed that sets the standard in cooperation and information sharing to assist in ensuring the probity of NSW greyhound racing.

Chief Executive Officer of Betfair Australasia, Andrew Twaits, said the partnership with GRNSW is part of a long term goal to assist the NSW racing industry and broaden the awareness of its product.

“Betfair is delighted to form a partnership with such a progressive body with an appetite for growth and business development. The arrangement with GRNSW allows us to support programs and events at a state level and will eventually allow us take NSW greyhound racing to a much broader domestic and international audience,” Mr Twaits said.

The Betfair Greyhound of the Year Awards will be held at the Sydney Hilton on Friday 12 February 2009.

Betfair currently pays 10% of its gross revenue on NSW greyhound races to GRNSW. The product fees agreement began in September 2008.
