Bundanoon’s Winning Casino Greyhound’s Return

Casino Cup winner Bundanoon returned to her home track to score a slashing win in her heat of the Blue Paws 5th grade series last Friday.

Having only won one fifth grade event over the short journey, she was able to contest this event, and certainly made her presence felt in recording the fastest heat time.

When she got to the lead going into the back, it was a case of “how far” as she romped away to win by 7 3/4 lengths in 22.97. It was her thirteenth win, and she has been perfectly placed by trainer Jeff Smith.

Also winning a heat was Pop Northfield maiden winner Fire Hawk. He is building up an impressive resume with seven wins from eleven starts, and he led all of the way to clock 23.34 for trainer Jan Finneran and the Magnay family.

The Northfield’s are not far away in these Blue Paws bonus races, and Charlie and Brad provided two further heat sucesses. Charlie won with Kingsbrae Dust who got around a jamming pack at the top turn to clock 23.68, whilst Brad won with Bralyn Beau who took advantage of scrimmage up front to clock 23.57, in a 1 3/4 length win.

Kevin Ackling, who hasn’t been enjoying the best of health recently, had the remaining run off winner in Penny Adios. She kicked away down the back to also run 23.57.

Trincomalee has had all of her career wins at Casino, and she ran the best time over the 484 metres – 27.86. Owned and trained by Sheila Smith, she positioned herself behind the pace in the early stages. When the opportunity to rail through presented itself, she took off, and raced away to win by 7 3/4 lengths.

Yet another runner to enjoy being “home” was Kooringa Squirt who took out the top grade Casino RSM Club stake. Scooting over from box six, she was soon on the bunny, and although the challenges came quick and fast over the concluding stages, she held on by a neck clocking 23.43.

Local trainer Chris Supple continued on his winning way when Maxie’s Chariot found the fence in the early stages before running 28.12, and Cyclone Tex was never headed in winning the Mc Donald’s Pharmacy maiden in 28.12. Pat Lavis trains him.

Although the bold striding Sapper Karanne ran very wide, he had too may “guns” in taking out the opening maiden in 23.85 for Dave King, while Charlie Northfield made it a double with Arienia Rose opening her account. She kicked clear at the first turn and ran 23.72.

To round off a great day’s racing, Black Hassler won the Rapidvite Hi Performance stake in 28.06 for Banora Point trainer Neville Tonks.

Casino is back with racing every Friday afternoon through to Easter.
