Carlson Bale Makes City Debut Tonight
All roads lead to Wentworth Park for Punters Club members tonight as their boom greyhound Carlson Bale has his first race start at New South Wales headquarters in the Multicam Stake at 8.30pm.
Bred by renowned greyhound racing identity Paul Wheeler and trained by his son Brendan, the pick of Carlson to be the Punter's Club pinup boy has been an inspired one.
A greyhound that would be competitive was the agenda of Greyhound Racing New South Wales when selecting a candidate for the Daily Telegraph Punters Club stable. As displayed by his astounding effort to win his first four race starts, what they have in fact secured is a burgeoning people's champion, who is surely one of the most exciting greyhounds racing in Australia.
The Punters Club is the brainchild of Racing NSW and is also supported by the exclusive wagering provider Tabcorp to offer promotions and offers to all of the Punters Club members.
The ride started back in May when Carlson debuted at Richmond in a Maiden race. Sent out a red-hot favourite, he not only won but spaced his nearest rival by a mammoth twelve lengths and signs were that the Punters Club might have uncovered a gem.
He backed up this performance the following week when he won the Maiden final after overcoming severe interference early.
Splashed around in the mainstream media, Carlson still in the infancy of his career, was already gaining attention afforded only to champions of the past like Brett Lee.
He proceeded to win his next two starts to make it four on the trot before stumbling at Bulli last Sunday.
Trainer Brendan Wheeler said: “After missing out on a place at Bulli last Sunday, Carlson Bale has pulled up OK. He is now set for his first Wentworth Park appearance on Monday”.
Carlson Bale is born to run being the son of Primo Uno, a giant black dog who throughout his short career managed 13 wins from 19 starts before being cut down by injury.
A risky beginner, Carlson's box manners are a slight concern however his freakish ability to explode when settled means he can overcome adversity, as all good dogs can do.
Drawn in box two for Monday night's race, Carlson Bale is positioned to race handy off the blistering speed to his immediate right early. Opposition Ivanovic, in box four, and Uncle Bully, in box five, will prove the hardest to contain as they possess the ability to “fly the lids”, something Carlson Bale is not renowned for.
However, barring early trouble, if he is within earshot of these two down the back straight then it will take a mighty effort from either to hold the Punters Club youngster out. His closing speed will be simply too powerful and he should race away to record his first metropolitan win.
