Dyna Willow Superb In The 2013 Summer Cup Final

Dyna Willow (Box 8) her fast heat win to land the $25,000 Schweppes Final at on Saturday night. The trained daughter of and Horizon Bale made it two from two at the Glebe circuit to win in 41.92, replicating her time from last week's victory. Smart Valentio (Box 2) finished second, with Set To Shine (Box 6) third.

Dyna Willow exited the extreme outside and didn't have it all her own way. Infinite Wish (Box 1) began in her usual smart fashion with Set To Shine (Box 6) not far behind. Set To Shine's presence meant that Dyna Willow had to work hard to get to second early, with the leader carving out a swift 16.16 first section.

Entering the straight on the first occasion, Dyna Willow had made her way into second and looked to have secured a rails run while Infinite Wish used the track. However leaving the straight, Infinite Wish carved back to the rails and Dyna Willow was slightly disappointed for a run with Set To Shine poking back up on the rails.

As the dogs entered the back straight Dyna Willow called on all her tenacity to overhaul Infinite Wish and, by the time they left the back, she had gained the ascendency. Dyna Willow quickly put a couple of lengths on them while the battle started to take its toll on the early leader.

If there was any danger from this point, it was the Distance champion Smart Valentino who emerged from the back with a withering burst. But Dyna Willow packed to much punch and prevailed to score by one and a quarter lengths from Smart Valentino, while Set To Shine battled on valiantly to remain in third a further four and a quarter lengths away.

Of the beaten brigade, both Bell Haven and Lucy Wires both found trouble as they commenced their runs from well back. But all honours were with the winner who showed her versatility by coming from third to win the final after leading all the way in her heat.

The win was Dyna Willow's twelfth victory from just twenty two starts and takes the twenty eight kilogram red brindle bitches prizemoney past the $50,000. We can expect to see the name Dyna Willow featuring in plenty of feature staying races in the future.
