Trainer Darren Russell has done a top job with this well bred son of , and he may be eyeing off the Group 3 for him early in September.

The “Cougars” Cup has been revived this year with the assistance of the Casino RSM Rugby League Club and it was great to see members of the 1979 side on track for the running of the event. The 30 year reunion of the 1979 premiership was well celebrated over the last weekend.

Shane won firstly with who got around a packing field at the first bend to run 23.50 in a 3 1/2 length win, whilst Basia held the rails running to the first turn before kicking away to score by 4 1/2 lengths. She clocked 23.45. Charlie Northfield's Lady Proper took out the rich Final when she led all of the way in 27.87, getting in by a half head, while Ariena's Star railed through down the back to get away and win the Billy Walker stake by 2 lengths in 27.98.

Grand old campaigner Blimey made it two wins in the week when she won the Reunion stake. It was a three way “go” in the back straight where Blimey skipped through a gap in the middle, to be off for the prize. It was her 30th win at her ninety seventh start, and at over four years of age, she is racing with great verve for John and Deidre Free.

Stephen Keep's Cool Mc Cool went straight to the lead in the Fans and Supporters event, and the result was never in doubt. He would have no doubt benefitted from his prevoius run on the track, and won by 2 1/2 lengths in 27.95. The odds of 10/1 would have made the win more attractive.

Uncle Ernietta also speared across from box eight to never be headed in a 4 1/4 length win in 27.52 for Glenda Dart, and stayer got around the early leader on the home bend before winning in 35.86 for Brooke and Jim . She was another who wore the pink rug.

Trevor Thompson's Lucky Rose Hi kept up her good form to win the Richmond Valley Meats stake in 23.11, and Pirate Trick sent Trevor Wilson home to Murwillumbah in a happy frame of mind, when he won the Sarwood Timbers stake in 27.49.

The Club again thanks the Casino RSM Club Cougars for their attendance and sponsorship on the day, and we look forward to another great day's racing this Friday.
