Goulburn Cup Goes To Knocka’s Return

A near track record run from Knocka’s Return (Box 7) has seen the red brindle and white son of Knocka’s Norris ex. Winning Shiraz take out the 2013 Goulburn Workers Club Cup.

The dog, owned and trained by Mark Wilcox, was ideally boxed for the final and started as the $2.50 favourite. Meditate (Box 1) jumped well from the inside along with Greysynd Jet (Box 3). Knocka’s Return was fairly away, but quickly shifted into third and had his eyes set on the leaders. Greysynd Jet was working hard to get around Meditate going into the turn with Mediate drifting slightly off the rail. This gave Knocka’s Return the gap he needed and he swiftly moved underneath Meditate and took control of the race from that point on. Greysynd Jet finished 5 3/4 lengths behind in second with Charlm Road (Box 6) again displaying the strong finish he demonstrated in his heat run to wind up in third. The winning time of 25.38 was just outside the track record of 25.32.

The Goulburn Cup win was Knocka’s Return’s 16th career victory from just 34 career starts and he is a chaser to keep an eye on.
