GRNSW Claim A Win On Greyhound Racing Schedule Changes
Wagering data received from Tabcorp shows a significant and immediate increase in turnover.
“NSW TAB turnover on last Friday night's race meeting at The Gardens, which included the final of the Group Two Multicam Black Top, was just over $600,000. That is a 17% increase on the average turnover being achieved in that timeslot this season,” Hogan said.
“The figure also represents a massive 45% increase on the amount wagered on the NSW TAB for the 2008 Black Top final which was held on a Wednesday night.
“The result vindicates GRNSW's decision and shows that scheduling feature races in key viewing timeslots leads to increased wagering turnover, which in turn benefits our sport and its participants.”
Other meetings held on Friday 11 September performed on par with year-to-date averages, meaning there was no downside to the one-off change.
National Coursing Association President Murray Nicol said changes to the racing calendar to accommodate top quality racing in feature timeslots was good business practice which benefitted all stakeholders in NSW greyhound racing.
“We are very grateful to GRNSW for allowing the Multicam Black Top final to be moved to Friday night. We promoted the night heavily and clearly the results speak for themselves,” Mr. Nicol said.
Next on the list of meetings that have been moved to higher profile timeslots are the Casino Cup (Friday twilight) on 9 October and the Lismore Cup (Thursday night) on 5 November.
