The NSW GBOTA Lismore Cup (Group 2) will break new ground this year, when, for the first time, heats will be run on a Sunday into a Thursday night final.
Sponsored by the Lismore Workers Club, the Lismore Cup will be staged over 520m and carries a first prize of $30,000. Heats are now set down for Sunday afternoon, November 1 and the Final will be on Thursday evening, November 5, 2009.
The Thursday night slot has been granted to Lismore as part of a GRNSW concept to showcase the best racing in the high viewing time slots.
Local Manager, John Scholten, has been a driving force behind the escalation of the Lismore Cup during the past 10 years and he is sure the Sunday/Thursday format will result in the best ever series.
“We follow straight on from the Ipswich Cup and I reckon the Sunday/Thursday format will make the event more attractive to those who want to travel and stay for a few days.
“Despite racing on the Sunday and Thursday, we will still have the Tuesday night normal meeting in between so it is virtually a carnival.”
The winner of the Lismore Cup will also receive a free service to Collision, courtesy of Tony Lockett. Trainers should also be aware that a Best 8, 635m feature will be run on Final night.
It is sponsored by Harvey’s Towing and will feature a $4,000 first prize and a free service to Knocka Norris (courtesy of Reg Kay).
