Gunnadoo Cove wins 2017 Group 3 Gold Cup

NSW greyhound racing

GUNNADOO Cove has upset some of her more fancied rivals to score a sensational victory in Saturday night’s Group 3 Gold Cup (720m) at Wentworth Park.

Stepping from box one as a $10 shot, Gunnadoo Cove slipped into third position behind Dean Swain’s duo Miss Foxy Lee (box two) and Starza Light (box five) in the early stages.

Past the post on the first occasion, the two leaders had sprinted clear, with Gunnadoo Cove stalking them back in third.

Down the back, the John Heard-trained bitch started gaining ground, hooking to the outside in the run around the home turn.

In the straight the daughter of Shakey Jakey and Cruze sprinted clear, crossing the line two-and-three-quarter-lengths clear of Ebby Ripper (box six) in a fast 42.09.

Starza Light, which was sent to the boxes as the race favourite, finished third, with Miss Foxy Lee tiring to finish fifth.

Trained on the Central Coast, Gunnadoo Cove has now won nine of her 24 starts with a further 10 minor placings, whilst her prize money earnings are now in excess of $55,000.
