Kicking Rocks Stuns At The Gardens
After just one career start at Tamworth this time last year, nobody expected maiden greyhound Kicking Rocks to step out on Friday at The Gardens and run just 0.07 off the 515 metre track record of 29.23.
Keinbah trainer Ryan Tredway has spent the past twelve months preparing this superbly bred chaser by Cosmic Rumble out of Really Satisfies, who has been showing enormous potential on the clock.
“On trial day on a Tuesday he has been running around the 29.60 mark, which is great. I have had non-stop problems with him since he began at Tamworth last year and I'm just hoping he can stay healthy now. I like to take pups out to the bush for some experience and I had a lot of dramas with Kicking Rocks after his debut at Tamworth, but he is putting it all together now.”
Kicking Rocks was never headed on Friday in a brilliant win by ten lengths, recording blistering sectionals of 4.94, 17.17 and a scintillating run home of 12.13, with an overall time of 29.30. Which was faster than both group one races that were held at the track in February.
“Honestly I was surprised he went that fast. What was most pleasing for me was he showed good early speed and ran home really well; he did it at all ends of the track. That was only his third ever 500 on Friday. I won't plan too far ahead and will probably just work him through the grades to get some more experience. I do pinch myself at the thought of what he ran, but I just want him to keep going now.”
Kicking Rocks dam Really Satisfies has been an exceptional producer to date, with Tredway's outstanding group one finalist Rigs her most successful offspring to date. Tredway picked up a litter double with Kicking Rocks litter brother Pad Burner, who recorded an impressive victory also over the 515, clocking 29.78.
“Really Satisfies has been a very good producer and I have a 7 month old litter to Collision and she is currently in pup to Surf Lorian, so there is a lot to look forward to.”
