Lord Gee takes time honours in New Sensation heats

CHRISTINE Proctor's Lord Gee set an impressive standard in Friday night's heats at , clocking an smart time of 29.88 over 520m.

Exiting from box three, the son of El Grand Senor and Oh Em Gee took the lead approaching the first turn and led throughout, scoring by 2.5 lengths over Aphorism, which held his position well for the entire race. Inside runner Gundal A Gogo finished a further 6.75 lengths away in third, with $2.00 race favourite Zipping Sonny failing to find a run after a poor getaway from box five.

Heat one saw punters throw their support behind Melinda Finn's runner Still Searchin', exiting from the inside alley at $2.90. The daughter of and Search Party used box one to perfection, showing good early dash to lead all the way in a solid time of 30.11. ' Country Fox was gallant in defeat, finishing a length away in second, with Irish Whip a further seven lengths away in third position.

Still Searchin' recorded his first win at Wentworth Park on Friday night after three previous attempts.

Favourite backers were again rewarded in heat two, with Shaun Evans' Star Torana getting the cash in a great go to the line. Stepping from box one, the son of and Redskin made the most of box one, sitting in second position behind speedy beginner No Jockey Needed. Star Torana showed a great burst of strength at the finish, scoring by three-quarters-of-a-length over No Jockey Needed and Evidence which flew home to finish a length away in third.

Star Torana has a brilliant career record of six wins from nine starts and kept his perfect Wentworth Park record of three wins from three starts intact.

The first major upset of the night occurred in heat three, when Sweet Release scored an impressive victory from box five. The son of and Hidden Assets jumped brilliantly from the middle alley and looked a winner, until favourite runner Goldengrove Lad took the lead halfway around the home turn. Favourite backers would've been tempted to line up in the collection queue, however Sweet Release made one last ditch effort to secure the win by a head in 29.92. track record holder Winsome Jacko finished half a length behind the winner in third.

Sweet Release scored her first win at Wentworth Park on Friday night and will be much shorter odds in the semi-finals next week.

No Donuts was a red-hot favourite in heat four for trainer Johannes Vanderburg, starting at skinny odds of $1.60 from box eight. The runner-up got a good getaway from the outside alley, however was dragged down at the first turn after some heavy interference. The son of Fabregas and Chevy Princess sat in third position heading into the back straight, with Master Gee a clear leader. Coming to the home turn, No Donuts switched to the outside and showed a great burst of strength to win by a length-and-a-quarter in 30.33. Master Gee for Christine Proctor ran a great race to finish second and Topper Road was a length-and-three-quarters away in third.

No Donuts is yet to be unplaced after eight starts and notched up his fifth career win, the first at Wentworth Park.

Fantastic Sid started as a short-priced favourite in heat five at $1.80, however failed to make an impact after a poor getaway from box two. Estranged burned down the outside from box eight to take an early lead heading into the back straight, with Tiggerlong Killa six lengths away in second position. Turning for home, Tiggerlong Killa checked off the heels of the leader, however still managed to secure the win by one-and-three-quarter lengths in 30.26. Estranged finished second and San Joy was a length-and-a-quarter away in third.

The son of Fabregas and notched up his second win at Wentworth Park this week, after recording a 30.32 win at the track on Monday night.

Next weeks semi-finals will be conducted on Friday evening.
