Senior racing operation appointments were finalised at the NSW GBOTA’s Maitland and Wentworth Park operations this week.
Kayla Spliet has been appointed as Manager – Maitland Operations and Chris McKay is now the Assistant Manager – Wentworth Park Operations.
NSW GBOTA Executive Officer, Brenton Scott, said this week that the Association was delighted to be able to announce both appointments.
“We received very good interest in the Maitland position with a number of good quality applicants,” said Scott.
“We were very impressed though with the Industry knowledge, administration skills and enthusiasm that Kayla brought to the table.
‘We are confident Kayla will be looking to make a difference at Maitland.
“Chris has, of course, been with the Association in a casual capacity and his elevation to a permanent contract at Wentworth Park is important to our future plans at our major operation,” concluded Scott.
Spliet is currently employed by Ausure Underwriting P/L in an administrative role and has undertaken a number of casual raceday supervisory roles at Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton and The Gardens.
McKay is one of the more experienced racing operation managers in NSW. He was Secretary of the Cessnock Club for 10 years and is a former Director of the Newcastle Harness Racing Club.
While McKay will commence duties immediately, Spliet is expected to take up her role within a month.
Retiring Maitland Manager, Penny Knox, will continue her employment with the Association for a brief cross-over period. Scott was praiseworthy of the contribution Knox had made at Maitland.
“Penny has played an important role at Maitland,” explained Scott.
“She played a pivotal role when the NSW GBOTA assumed racing operations from the Maitland Show Society and was at the forefront of the Maitland Track re-build.
“The NSW GBOTA appreciates the contribution she has made and trusts that she has a long and enjoyable retirement.”
