NSW National Sprint Finalists Decided

Two outstanding heats of the NSW Championship were run and won last night at Wentworth Park, with Queen Esther and Chica Destacada both ultra-impressive over the 520m distance.

Queen Esther went into heat one as the $1.80 favourite for Hamlyn Terrace trainer Noelene Holloway and began beautifully from box one, clocking a speedy time of 29.77. Booming Bennett was fastest away, with the daughter of and hot on her heels at the first turn, streaking away to score by two and a half lengths at the finish. Notching up her eighteenth win from fifty-three starts, Queen Esther will be a force to reckoned with in next week's final, despite coming up with box seven. In form chaser Take It All produced another barnstorming run to finish second from box five, giving Doreen Drynan another qualifier in the final.

Chica Destacada stunned enthusiasts in heat two. After failing to record a victory since May, the Doreen Drynan trained chaser was back to her brilliant best last night, leading all the way in a sizzling time of 29.60. The daughter of Cosmic Rumble and began her career in stunning fashion with a 30.62 performance at Richmond followed by a blistering 29.46 win at . After somewhat of a form slump, she returned to peak form with a 29.49 victory at Wentworth Park back in May and is ideally drawn in box three for next week's final. Favourite runner Tommy Brislane was gallant in defeat, but was no match for the winner who saluted by eight and three quarter lengths.

Two heats of the NSW were conducted over the 720m, with an outstanding performance by Dusty Moonshine in heat one. The trained chaser took the lead in the back straight over Queen Marina, streaking away to score by eight and a quarter lengths in a flying time of 41.93. The beautifully bred daughter of El Grand Senor and Kicatoo Pearl recorded her ninth win last night from just fifteen starts and is emerging as a serious contender over the distance trip.

Heat two went to $13 outsider My Asuncion for trainer , leading all the way from box four in an impressive time of 42.28. The daughter of and Just Friends recorded her eighth career win last night and is now a genuine chance for next weeks final. Favourite runner Cosmic Rosie failed to fire from box seven, however finished in third position to qualify for next week's final.

Is it just me or was the track exceptionally fast? I wouldn’t have considered those stayers running that time.
