NSW Stewards Adjourn Murray Inquiry In To Dual Positives

Greyhound have today announced they have adjourned the into positives swab found in two greyhounds trained by New South Wales greyhound trainer Tim Murray.

The stewards inquiries were set down after both Knocka Who and Solitary Sam returned positives swabs to a metabolite of an anabolic steroid.

According to the analysts report the urine sample taken from Solitary Sam after that greyhound won at Betchoice Gardens meeting on 18 February, 2011 and from Knocka Who after that greyhound won at Betchoice Gardens meeting on Wednesday 30 March, 2011 contained the prohibited substance 17 alpha-methyl-5alpha-androstane-3beta, 17 beta-diol and 17 alpha-methyl-5beta-androstane-3alpha,17beta-diol.

Both metabolites are known to be found in the urine of humans after treatment with the anabolic steroid Methandrostenolone, commercially sold as Anabol or Dianabol (“D Bol”).

However, recent laboratory studies in Germany have also found that both metabolites can also be found in the urine of people using “dietary supplements” that are intended to boost testosterone levels.

One such product, “Jungle Warfare”, is freely available from web-based sales companies. The product is used as a “pro-hormone” mainly for building muscle mass, but is alleged to also dramatically increase the free available testosterone in the body.

The German based study clearly demonstrated that both the metabolites, 17 alpha-methyl-5alpha-androstane-3beta, 17 beta-diol and 17 alpha-methyl-5beta-androstane-3alpha,17beta-diol; were found in urine in humans up to 181 to 189 hours after a single of the “supplement”.

At the initial on the 2nd June 2011, trainer Mr Tim Murray pleaded guilty to a charge under GAR 83 (2) (a) in that he had presented Solitary Sam to compete at on 18 February 2011 and that the urine sample taken from the greyhound after the race was found to contain the prohibited substance in question.

In relation to this plea, Stewards have adjourned in consideration of penalty.

The inquiry into the report in relation to Knocka Who will resume at the office of Betchoice Gardens Greyhound Racing Track on Tuesday 11 July at 11am.
