PATCH Adam stamped himself as one of the most exciting youngsters in the country with an airborne 29.55 victory in a heat of the Group 3 New Sensation (520m) at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Despite going into the race with just one win from eight starts at the track, punters rallied around the Max Rimmer-trained dog, which started as the $2.10 favourite from box one.

Flying the lids, Patch Adam was able to hold the front ahead of Roxy Twist (box four) in the early stages before hitting top gear down the back and sprinting clear.

In the run to the line the son of Black Magic Opal and Limited Addition was too strong for Ebby Chance (box seven), scoring by six and one quarter lengths in a fast 29.55.

The victory made it eight wins and five minors from 19 starts from Patch Adam, which was originally being set for the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg series but missed out on gaining a run in the heats as reserve.

Funnily enough, Patch Adam’s winning time on Wednesday night was by far the best time recorded throughout the Easter Egg Carnival thus far, the next quickest being Striker Light, which stopped the clock in 29.67 when winning a heat of the Egg last Saturday.

Also clocking fast time was Rohan Hill for Jodie Lord. The regally-bred son of Brett Lee and Cawbourne Whip showed a clean set of heels out of the boxes and never looked in danger when leading throughout to win in 29.76.

It was his second win at headquarters at his fourth attempt and he is sure to improve heading into the final with Wednesday’s triumph his first race start in almost a month.

The only other heat to break the 30 second barrier was Arugula for Tassie trainer Michael Stringer. The black dog exploded from the traps with a 5.38 first section, but was quickly joined and headed by Son Of Katie (box seven) around the first turn.

Despite being headed, Arugula never gave in, holding his position on the fence and fighting back to record a one and three quarter length victory in 29.91.

It was a good night in the Harbour City for the Taswegians, with Two Bills also saluting for prominent mentor Shane Whitney. Beginning from box eight in the opening New Sensation heat, Two Bills was only fairly away but managed to slip into third spot behind Wonelova Gun (box three) and Sound Advice (box four) around the first turn.

Approaching the home turn the son of Spring Gun and China Lady began his run, weaving in between the leaders before hooking to the outside, storming down the centre of the track to score by two lengths in 30.21.

Christine Proctor, who ran second in another heat with Son Of Katie, will be represented by two greyhounds in the final with Chevy King saluting in the final qualifier.

The 33-kilogram greyhound was able to hold his spot on the fence from box one, stalking the leader Manila Dawn (box two). Down the back Chevy King started grinding back the margin, hitting the front in the home straight and holding off a late challenge by Victor Charlie to win by a neck in 30.06.

Chevy King has now won six races and been placed a further six times from 16 starts.

The Group 3 New Sensation final will be run and won on April 15 and is worth $25,000.
