Token Mulwee Grabs Third & Overall Series

GRNSW Country ChallengeIts not often in sport that the spoils of victory go to the third placegetter but that must be how it felt for the of Jessica Albaz after she won the Kempsey final of the GRNSW Country Challenge on Saturday.

Jessica Albaz scored a stunning victory in the final, one and a half lengths clear of second placed Bago Raider and in a time of 29.03 seconds which is just outside the for the 508 metre distance.

It was the third by Token Mulwee that took the spotlight. The placing allowed the five and a half year old veteran to score enough points to overtake Montana Belle and take the 2007/2008 GRNSW Country Challenge crown and win the $10,000 bonus.

The trained Token Mulwee competed in 14 out of a possible 28 Country Challenge events over the twelve months of competition. In that time he made eight finals and scored 47 points in the series to win by five.

Token Mulwee will now head to for the GRNSW Country Challenge Showdown event on Saturday 12 July. This will be his swansong after more than 140 starts and will certainly be the sentimental favourite up against some of the best runners in the state including Appin winner , Montana Belle and .

The highly anticipated inaugural Showdown will see the top eight greyhounds in the series invited to Wentworth Park for the $20,000 event. It is expected that last years Series Champion will miss the Showdown due to retirement but it is expected the other runners on the leaderboard will be available.
