Tracey Hurst trained her first Group 1 winner when Dancing Surf won this $50,000 feature at Wentworth Park over 520 metres last Saturday.
Tracey had two runners in the final – her other runner Fancy Mandy went out 2/1 favourite finishing fourth from box 5 after a slow start. The winner was on the fourth line of betting at 5/1.
Keith Pedrosa for owner trainer Paul Stuart ran second at 9/2 – Paul told us that this was the fourth Group race final he has contested – all coming this year and it was his first Group 1 race.
Allan Manwaring owns and trains the third placegetter Puddy Muddles and this was the first Group race he has contested. Puddy Muddles started second favourite at 4/1.
The inside boxes 1, 2 and 3 filled the placings in an even final and after the race at the presentation Frank Hurst commented that a good box draw in such races is everything… and Dancing Surf took full advantage with a faultless start and an all the way win.
It was a final marked by a number of new trainers to Group finals at headquarters and all were very excited and proud to be participating. See pictured below Keith Pedrana (Freaky Lee (6)) looking very smart in the parade, outfitted as usual for our Group races at Wenty by Tedesco Menswear, Castle Hill – thanks to Tedesco for their continued support.
Part owner Allan Mottershead took a table for the first floor dinner to celebrate just being in the race and had $50,000 reasons to celebrate with his co owner Tony McCulloch after the win. Congratulations Allan and Tony on a well deserved victory.
Congratulations to Tracey and Frank Hurst on their outstanding achievement and congratulations also to the place getters and everyone who reached this Group 1 final.
The winner’s time was 30.25 and the margins were ¾ x 1 ½ lengths.
