Gypsy Tokay All The Rage At Winnellie
Such is the quality of speedsters on display for tonight's SBA Office National NT Sprint (383m) at Winnellie Park, even triple Olympic champion UsainBolt would be glancing overhis shoulder.
Just like the Jamaican sensation who stole headlines for his exploits in Beijing, this collection of greyhounds can stop the clock in pretty slick time and are battling it out for a $1450 prize purse tonight.
If you were to compare Bolt to any greyhound it would be Frank Scott's Gypsy Tokay, a risingstar who is just starting to hither potential.
Having run her best 383m time of 22.54secs two starts back, Gypsy Tokay is fit, in-form and full of confidence heading into the big dance.
To borrow more sprinting parlance then Ironability would be former world-record holder Asafa Powell.
Ironability has comfortably the best career time – 22.38 – of anyone in this field, but the acid test will be how he handles the occasion from box seven.
For trainer Nick Day's sake, hopefully better than Powell.
On times, Bad Curry (box two) and Biggest Mob's (box eight) should be respected, having both run 22.46, while the wildcard (every sprint has one) hasto be Michele Famiglietti'sUltra Superb.
While kennelmate Front Index is racing in form, the former NSW dasher having his first Top End start needs closer inspection.
Having won eight of his 27 career starts and posted good times over 400m, Ultra Superb will have fans from box one.
Tonight is a bumper evening of racing with seven races on the program.
On the support program, it will be dj vu for Rob Brennan who sends out all five runners in the night's opening race, while look for One Ore, All In Footrot and All In Cuz to have an impact in their respective races.
