2011 The Greyhound Recorder Paws Of Thunder Final To Azzopardi & Fancy Will

Saturday's (October 1) Paws of Thunder finished on an emotional high as Londonderry trainer dedicated Fancy Will's $100,000 win to close family friend Michael Pedrana who passed away recently.

Starting from the favoured red alley Fancy Will lived up to Azzopardi' s expectations with the 30.03 victory over a fast finishing and early challenger Allen Hertz.

“I am just so proud of the dog,” Azzopardi said following the event.

“He had to have the one, two or three to be a chance in this company but he did what I knew he could do and set the pace.

“Credit to the dog Allen Hertz challenged him early and then Oaks Road came hard late but he did enough to win, and that's all you can ask.”

In what has been an emotional time for family and friends of well-known trainer , with the recent passing of his brother Michael. Saturday's victory came as an opportunity to recognise the lives Michael Pedrana touched with Azzopardi dedicating the win to his friend.

“He was just such a top bloke, and we miss him,” Azzopardi said immediately following the event.

Azzopardi also took the opportunity to thank renowned Cudal based breeders Dennis and , who bred, reared and broke in Fancy Will.

“They are just such great at what they do and we have been fortunate that both greyhounds we have bought off them to date (Smooth Fancy and Fancy Will) have been good for us”

“I can't wait to catch up with Dennis at Coonamble and celebrate the win,” Azzopardi said.

Azzopardi indicated he will now travel to with Fancy Will and kennelmate Adam Meway for the $40,000 Lismore Workers Club Cup on October 18.
