Jan Steel Lands Second Treble In A Week

A successful 10-race card was conducted at Dawson Park on Saturday afternoon with training honours for the day going to in-form Wellington mentor who landed a treble – her second in as many weeks on the track.

Successful owner-trainer combination John Harvey and Barry Coyte also had a good day leading in a double.

The pick of the Steel winners was ($1.70 fav) who broke the 23 seconds mark against a handy field over 400 metres in the Ausure Finance and Insurance Stakes.

Starting from the rails alley, Rich Magnetic bounced straight on the bunny to lead all the way to score in 22.98s.

The $1.50 favourite Assassin Journey made amends for her shock defeat last week when registering a classy 30.18s victory in the Blue Paws Sprint (516m) defeating some well performed rivals including , Cotton Jenny and Lord Jim.

Diva Rose – the $2.50 second favourite, brought up the Steel kennel treble when she overpowered early leader ($1.60 fav) to post a 18.53s victory in the Winning Edge Lasers Stakes (313m).

The John Harvey and Barry Coyte combination was to the fore in the All Codes Racing Services Stakes (516m) when Sweeny ($6) came with a wet sail to take out the 5th grade race over 516m in a handy 30.58s.

It was the second win of the day with Spudnick ($2.70) that really brought the smiles to the faces of Barry and Anne Coyte and good guy John Harvey.

“We have had a bad time with this dog who had a number of health problems and then cracked a bone in his hock,” Coyte said.

“To win is real buzz and a bit emotional as you can see.”

Meanwhile, in the opening race of the day, the Ryan and Rankmore Accountants Stakes (313m), ($3) made full use of the rails box to score in a nippy 18.31s. The winner is trained locally by Dubbo club director Don Ronneberg.

A first starter from the Braddon kennels at Cowra, Never Before, opened his career on a bright note with a tradesman like win in the second race, the Bob's pets and Fuel Stakes (400m).

Never Before ($1.90 fav) tracked early leader Rug Ripper for the majority of the race before surging to the lead at the top of the home straight to score in 23.75s.

Local trainer had a smile on his dial like a split watermelon after Caley Boy ($1.70 fav) was an easy winner in the Dubbo City Limousine Stakes (313m).

While the dog showed what he could with plenty of room to move, poor Anthony's day didn't get much better when he rolled up the red marble, so Caley Boy was locked away for a random urine sample and the prize money was witheld.

The lucky last of the day, the Dawsons Plaster Works Stakes (400m) went to the , Dubbo, trained Atomic Girl ($3) who led from barrier to box to score in 23.41s.

Racing resumes at Dubbo on Saturday week, July 19, with the feature race being the Winter Short Course Sprint (313m) for greyhounds 0-2 wins.
