2014 Listed Flying Amy Classic Preview

Some of Queensland's most promising sprinters will line up for a crack at the $22,500 first prize in the at this Thursday evening.

If times are any guide, there is not a lot between the octet of runners, with just 1 1/2 lengths separating the three heat winners.

The quality does not end with the eight finalists either, with Queensland Derby winner Flash Reality waiting in the wings as first reserve should anyone withdraw. He went very close to the mark a few weeks back and could win this as he pleases if he gains a start and finds his best form.

Reg Kay's Happy Haswell set the time standard of 30.15 in the heats and has drawn the squeeze box (4) for the final.

The race will be race five on the card and is scheduled to jump at 8:05pm

Here is a look at each runner in detail;

1 – Angvella – Christina Harman – A winner of six races from just 15 starts who ran on well for a placing last week. The son of Just The Best and Joy Esme ( Rush – Marine Queen) has won four of 11 at the track with a personal best of 29.97. The 31kg brindle dog moves to a much more suitable box this week and could represent each-way value at a nice price. He has won his only start from box one in slick time at . He looks to be the value runner here.

2 – You Say So – Peter Ruetschi – One of three runners for the high-flying Ruetschi kennel who ran on well for a second to Nala's Heart in last week's heat. He is from the successful Outa Credit – Where Are You (Hallucinate – Duel's Me Mum) litter and has won five from 22 at the track with a further 11 placings. He is consistent but does not win out of turn and a place chance appears more likely than winning this one.

3 – You Can Talk – Peter Ruetschi – A littermate to You Say So who was beaten 5 3/4 lengths by Happy Haswell in last week's heat. She is a very consistent bitch who has won 13 of her 27 career outings and eight of 16 at Albion Park. Her best is only 30.12 which she may need to improve upon to be winning a race .

4 – Happy Haswell – Set the standard in the heats with a sharp 30.15 win despite not having the clearest run to the first turn. The regally bred son of Surf Lorian and Teenage Dream ( – Size ‘Em Up) has an imposing record with five wins from six starts and has already registered a handy 29.95 at this track. If there is a question mark over him it will be whether or not he can get to the first turn relatively unimpeded or not. If he can manage that, he will be the one to beat.

5 – Nala's Heart – Robert Handyside – Finished powerfully to land her heat win last week in 30.23. This striking blue fawn daughter of Surf Lorian and Perfect Thrill (Hallucinate – Gorgas) has now won three at Albion Park, including her last two and has a best of 29.99. She can show enough early speed to put herself in the picture and is definitely worthy of consideration.

6 – Give You Credit – Peter Ruetschi – The third runner from not only the Peter Ruetschi kennel, but also from the Outa Credit – Where Are You (Hallucinate – Duel's Me Mum) litter. He was forced to go three wide on the home turn last week when running on well to finish 2 1/4 lengths second to Happy Haswell. He is another who does not really win out of turn with six victories from his 25 starts, but he will definitely be doing his best work in the concluding stages. His place chances look better than his winning ones.

7 – King Elliot – Reg Hazelgrove – Caused a boilover last week in his heat, leading all the way to defeat some very handy conveyances in the time of 30.26, which is a personal best. He has won three of his five starts from box seven which would suggest that the outside draw should not be too much of an issue and has a handy career record of nine wins from 20 starts. His early speed is the key to his chances and he will need to get a clean break and possibly hope for trouble behind to be any winning chance.

8 – Super Vision – Peter Young – Looks the rank outsider of the field with just two wins to her name from 20 starts. She appeared to have every hope last week when third to Nala's Heart, finishing 3 3/4 lengths away from the winner. Her two wins have come from inside boxes and this simply looks too hard.

Reserves

9 – Flash Reality – This dog is likely to start a short-priced favourite if he gains a start and would be the one to beat regardless of the box he may draw. He had won five in a row here before his third last week, including a near-record 29.58 run. Should he manage to get a call-up, he is the dog to beat.

10 – Renatus – Robin Palmer – A 24-month-old veteran of just five starts with one win to his name. He finished fourth to Nala's Heart last week in his heat beaten some four lengths. This race looks too tough for him at this stage of his career.
