All Stars Battle In Brisbane For Queensland Derby

The Sky Channel Winter Chasing Carnival at continues to heat up as Australia's best young male sprinters line up this Thursday for the Group Two Brandons Electrical .

The heats feature all-star fields of Group dogs from around Australia and they are sure to produce one of the best Queensland Derbys in the history of Brisbane Greyhound racing.

The $38,000, 520m final will take place next Thursday, 18th June.

In Heat One (Race Two) West Australia Derby Winner, High Earner, has drawn box one, and will be very hard to beat given his early box speed.

However, the regular Albion Park 30-second breaker will need to be on his game if he is to keep out Tina Womann's Trew Chase who has been showing very promising form in Melbourne including a last start win over 525m in 29.97.

Whitfield Bale in box two is another that is sure to come out firing in this heat after running a solid third to Australian greyhound racing supertstar El Galo in the on Monday night.

The Graeme Bate trained performer has also shown strong metro-Melbourne form and boasts a racing resume of 28 starts for 13 wins and four placings.

Last week's Mick Byrne Memorial winner Ryan's A Rocket will be an outside chance in this race from box eight with his top Albion Park experience, but will be making the leap from the fourth and fifth grades to a Group field.

in box seven has shown speed in Brisbane several times before so should not be overlooked, including a 29.91 in January this year.

Heat Two (Race Three) will see the return of to Albion Park, coming off the back of a heat-win in the Group Three Dawson at Sandown two weeks ago and but ran seventh in the final.

Solid Perth performer Usquebaugh will jump from box two in this race, and will set out to make it three straight wins in three starts after winning well at Cannington in his last two races.

Dyna Lachlan will be one to keep an eye on from box one, racing for the first time at Albion Park last week, and winning in impressive fashion after being checked twice during the race. While the time was only 30.47, a wet track and a loss of time due to the unlucky run, should have him up there with the rest in this heat.

Probably the hardest heat of the night is Heat Three (Race Four) which will see several top performing greyhounds go head to head.

In box one is WA Derby runner up and Albion Park regular, , box two has Eric Thomson Final winner Cosmic Rumble, in box three is Take The Kitty, who ran in 29.87 in his last start at Wentworth Park, in box seven is quick young performer Same As Best and Anthony Azzopardi's Group hope Excel Like Time, is in box eight.

In Heat Four (Race Six), Silver Chief and National Derby winner Fedex, from the kennels, will jump from box eight and is expected to be the favourite in this race.

Competition is sure to come from box one with Grand Rule, who has shown solid form against some of South Australia's best in Drink Driver and the great Skull Murphy.

Brisbane performer Bogie Bomber, trained by in-form trainer Tony Brett, will jump from box seven and will be looking to improve on last week's second to Ryan's A Rocket in the Mick Byrne Memorial. His first sectional speed should come into play here, and is likely to cross before the first turn.

Promising Mark Gatt-trained performer, and recent Bulli Cup winner Last Man Out, will start in Heat Five from box eight but will have tough competition on his inside with Jamaican Bolt and Azastar sure to come out firing.

Jamacain Bolt will start from box three and willl be looking to replicate his form from his last start at the Meadows where he ran a quick 29.88 over 525m.

Azastar has also been impressive in recent weeks, and benefits from the box two draw.

In the last heat (Heat Six, Race Eight) Jason Thompson's Group One Maturity winner Aston Trivett is sure to lead the betting pool in the hope to make it four straight wins.

The talented youngster will jump from box six and is expected to early ahead of Surfin Silence in box two for the first turn.

Surfin Silence shouldn't be taken lightly in this race, jumping from box two and having quality experience at Albion Park.

Maturity runner up to Aston Trivett, Firefly Bale, will also be one to keep an eye on from box six.
