Albion Park Greyhounds Betting Preview & Tips

Racing Queensland tries something different this Thursday night with the Albion Park club set to race events over all five distances on SuperStayers night. Whilst many participants will be unhappy about the premier night being subjected to such races, the initiative is one that the club should be proud of.

With recent Monday night and Thursday night city fields (over a long sustained period) reduced to short fields, multiple novice events and ordinary dogs, this Thursday nights card offers lots of intrigue for all. With the short-term increase in prizemoney, the program has opened the door for greyhounds of all distance ability the chance for a nice prizemoney boost on the premier night of racing.

Race 4 BEST 8 EVERTON PARK HOTEL 331m @ 7.41pm

Recent finalist Simmerly headlines the first event for Highfields trainer Mark Saal. The March 2011 daughter of Collision – has an ultra impressive short track resume with 25 starts resulting in 11 wins and 9 placings. With her recent form including a near track record heat win in the Galaxy, a strong 5th in the final, and a near best of day straight track win at Capalaba on Saturday, she will be primed for this event and the $4000 winners cheque. Starting in box 2 she will be one of the favourites here and hard to beat.

With an impressive win rate of near 50% from 84 career starts Speed has been a wonderfully consistent dog for prominent owner Dallas Beckett and trainer Col Byers. Starting in box 2, the Feb 2010 son of Paddy's Flame – Perfect Model has perfect track form and distance with 2 wins from 2 starts. Aptly named, the black dog has lots of speed winning 40 with 29 further placings from 84 starts. With speed and a liking for the creek circuit, he will have his share of followers this Thursday night.

After a horror run or injuries and bad luck, Seldom Said returns for just his third start in 2013 for Logan Reserve owner trainer Jamie McHugh. After a Victorian stint with premier trainer Kel Greenough that included fast wins at Shepperton and Warragul, followed by a NSW stint with Azzopardi, where a fall and injury sent him home, the striking son of Where's Pedro – Cold Shivers is back home where his career started for the competent McHugh. With blistering first and second sectional times, the money dog will be hard to beat if he can find early room from the tough 5 box even with the lack of recent racing.

Race 5 BEST 8 SCRATCH CONSTRUCTIONS 395m @ 8.05pm

The second special event on the night is the 395m best 8 sprint where recent Galaxy competitors look to be the ones to beat over the sprint trip. The event had drawn a wonderful field of sprinters with all engaged runners capable of claiming the win and winners cheque.

Having a wonderful run over the past two weeks, Glenda Dart looks set to continue banking money with Taper Jean Girl. The former Victorian looks well suited here after drawing box 7. By El Galo – Blu Pie Girl, the 28 kilo blue bitch has fast wins over the sprint trips, including a super quick 22.63 at Warragul. If she can reproduce that performance here she will be hard to beat and should bring up win number 15.

Albion Park speedster Blackjack Gent ( – Lilly Grace) will hope to change his recent luck for trainer Deb Arnold. After fast wins here early last month, he had absolutely no luck in the Galaxy heats where he finished 6th behind Are They Now. He then had no luck on his return to Albion Park last week where he finished last. The talented grey has wonderful ability as evidenced by his sub 23 second wins here and although drawn in box 4 he will he hard to beat if he can reproduce his best here. With an overall record of 34 starts for 9 wins and 15 placings he has been a wonderful performer for prominent industry participant Anthony Jeffress.

Track specialist Franklin Fury gets a rare Thursday night run for leading Brisbane trainer . Dawn box 6, the September 2009 son of Where's Pedro – Orara Dreams has been a wonderfully consistent performer over the sprint trips where he has raced 80 times for 18 wins and 29 placings. Interestingly 77 starts (17 wins) have been here at Albion Park and of that 64 starts (15 wins) over this track and distance. It's a credit to Hunt that she has been able to continually produce winners and her winners to runners ratio is first class. Whilst he may be approaching the end of his career he is still as consistent as ever and can't be discounted.

Race 6 2/3 GRADE GLEN GALLON @ STUD 520m @ 8.25pm

Former Derby winner Bellagio Lad headlines the Glen Gallon at Stud 2nd and 3rd grade over the premier 520m journey. Drawn ideally in box 1, the November 2009 son of Big Daddy Cool – has been an honest performer for big name trainer . From the wonderful producer Ultra Swift, he has raced 57 times for 13 wins and 19 placings. With a bank balance nearing $100,000 a win in this will take him over that magical mark for the Mirage Greyhound Syndicate.

Sandra Hunts strong card continues with the remarkable Top Story another leading chance in this event. After injury prevented him racing for most of the first part of 2013, he has been in wonderful form winning 3 of his last 4 here at headquarters. While not reproducing anywhere near his 29.77 best time, he has been ultra impressive and looks hard to beat from box 8. The son of Knocka Norris – Bomber Babe has an overall record of 22 starts for 12 wins and 6 placings and if he can avoid early trouble he will look to motor home in this.

With the best syndicate name in Greyhound Racing, ‘The Flying Fleabags Syndicate' will hope their greyhound Bakaara can continue on her impressive winning way. With brilliant box speed placing her in a winning position in most of her 35 starts, the daughter of Where's Pedro – has been successful 14 times with a further 9 placings. With these results netting over $30,000 in prize money for connections. At Albion Park she has a best time of 30.27, and while not overly strong, her first and second section ability place her in a winning position as trouble happens behind. With a freshen up win last Saturday at the Capalaba straight track, she will look to do the same this Thursday as she jumps from box 5.

Race 7 4/5 GRADE GATEWAY ELECTRICAL 600m @ 8.44pm

With State of Origin game two just around the corner it's seems fitting that Wolffdene trainer Jeff Cumming engages Seven Straight over the creek 600m in this event. After his brilliant debut win over the track and distance in March this year where he stopped the clock at an impressive 34.88, he returns from a short layoff. The dog named in honour of the mighty maroons has been an honest performer with 14 starts for 4 wins and 4 placings. Slow early, the December son of Cosmic Rumble – Nicely Done has a big motor and if he is close enough he should be too strong for these.

Ultra consistent Apache Kitten (Pure Octane – Solid Return) makes the trip for Murwillumbah mentor John Clancy. The 26 kilogram white and black bitch loves the tricky 600m journey at headquarters as evidenced by her impressive 15 starts for 6 wins and 6 placings. Drawn in the difficult 6 box, the February 2010 whelp drops back to her preferred distance after competing in the recent Gold Cup heats. Not the best beginning she does has great race sense and a win in this event would take her record to 30 starts for 10 wins and 14 placings, which is a wonderful training performance.

Churchable trainer Sandra Giles brings old timer Surfin' Steffi to headquarters as the consistent daughter of Surf Lorian – Corolla looks to bring up win number 20. The March 2009 whelping has been a model of consistency in her 57 start career where she has won 19 and placed a further 18 times. With close to $50,000 in prizemoney the 28 kilogram chaser puts in 110% effort in every race and her recent form is as good as it was when she began her career. Starting in box 7 a win would not surprise here and would be just reward for a wonderful grey.

Race 8 ON LINE LINEMARKING SUPERSTAYERS 710m @ 9.08pm

The feature event of the card is the invite only super stayers event over the 710m staying journey. With just four greyhounds engaged its sure to be an exciting race as they square off in pursuit of the $15,000 first prize.
