Australia’s Top Stayers Contest Hawkins Media Super Stayers Tonight

Australia's top stayers will descend on Albion Park tonight to fight it out for the iconic Hawkins Solutions Superstayers 710m.

The $22,000 race was last year won by southern star greyhound from box seven, beating the 2007 Brisbane Greyhound of the Year, Miss Grub.

The invitational race selects the country's four best staying greyhounds and is fast becoming one of the Australian greyhound racing industry's iconic distance races.

This year's contestants will be no exception with proven performer Chinatown Lad from box one, in-form bitch in box three, the Robert Britton-trained Gunnadoo Magic in box five, and one of Queensland's top bitches in box seven.

Nicely Done replaces Lilly Criminal, who pulled up sore after a rough, unplaced run at Park last Thursday night.

Nicely Done goes into the race with a home-turf advantage, having 31 starts at Albion Park, 11 of these over 710m.

But the Robert Giltinan-trained bitch will have a challenge ahead of her with littler mates Chinatown Lad and Fallen Zorro on her inside.

While both Chinatown Lad and Fallen Zorro have only started at Albion Park twice each, Chinatown Lad has won both times winning her last start in a blistering 49.91.

Fallen Zorro won one of hers, with the other behind Chinatown Lad's impressive performance. Fallen Zorro boasts a strong best time of 42.44 in Brisbane.

Gunnadoo Magic has proven she has what it takes, having beaten Fallen Zorro and Chinatown Lad down south. However, she has only raced at Albion Park once finishing a disappointing fifth.

The three box is not a let down for the classy bitch, having been in the finish five of the six starts she has had wearing the white in Victoria and New South Wales.

But it's not only the Superstayers that will boast elite greyhound racing.

Tonight's racing includes the 2008 Sky Channel Brisbane Cup Heats for next week's final, which is a One worth $81,000 in prize money. The full Brisbane Cup will be available here later today.
