Blue Osti Takes Shot At Winged Runner Trophy

Touring bitch Blue Osti will not have room for jet lag this Thursday night when she lines up against a quality field of bitches in the annual Winged Runner Trophy Final.

The Kirsty Sultana-trained bitch has headed to the Sunshine State for her shot at the $7,600 race, which includes a service to quality southern middle distance runner Jamazz.

The Winged Runner Trophy has been a feature event at Albion Park since 2002, sponsored by racing enthusiast Lionel Ledlie who owned champion bitch Winged Runner.

Blue Osti will have some frequent flyer points up her sleave, having made the trip across the Tasman in the past week after winning in New Zealand on February 28, in a top 520m time of 30.09.

The week prior to this she raced at , and the week before that, managed a top win in Launceston.

Seasoned Brisbane bitches Sky Larking, Whirly Storm and will be looking to draw on their experience in this race in a bid to claim the $5,000 winner's cheque.

The box one draw for Sky Larking will be a great advantage for the -trained youngster, who has won two and place once out of her four starts wearing the red. Her first sectionals are also worth spruiking and she is expected to hit the first turn in the lead.

Whirly Storm, trained by 2008 award winning trainer Reg Hazelgrove, is sure to find comfort in her second start back at the Creek after a short campaign at , and having finished a strong second behind 's blistering 30.05 performance last week.

Killough Orchid from box six is a safe each-way hope, with an impressive staying record of four starts for three top-three finishes with one win.

Dawn Garrett's Little Egyptian is also one to keep an eye on from box eight, in what will be her second start at Albion Park after a descent 600m preparation race last week. Little Egyptian comes from Port Macquarie and previous starts include placings at .

Race three of the night, named after Jack Coleman, the 2008 Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club catcher of the year, will feature Makushla, who is certain to start favourite in the betting ring.

The Michael Briant-trained bitch by Surf Lorian and out of Rutile Rhapsody, blitzed the field last week to run in a very quick 30.05 ahead of Take A Squizz.

Take A Squizz lines up again against Makushla in this race, and will be one to consider with last week's margin behind Makushla only a quarter of a length.

The Best Eight, Reg Hazelgrove 600m race, is sure to be a thriller, with a quality field lining up.

Smart Choice will jump from box one in this race, and has shown fantastic form from this box in the past, and should find it again if he can hold onto the lead heading into the first turn.
