Elson Produces A Touch Of Magic

Cyndie's Special is one of the most consistent chasers currently racing in the Sunshine State and on Saturday night she will be looking to cause a boilover when she contests the Three Cup final.

Trained by , Cyndie's Special has raced on 55 occasions resulting in 14 wins and 23 minor placings. The black bitch ran second in this year's Group Two Futurity behind Visualize It and, more recently, third in the Group Three behind Give You Credit.

Cyndie's Special for the Ipswich Cup when running second in her heat behind the trained Tear Away Size from box seven. Elson feels that she will be more competitive from box three in this week's $25,000 to the winner final, rating Kay's other runner, Happy Haswell, as the one to beat.

“I reckon she will go well. Happy Haswell will most probably win it, but she will be right in it in the finish. She has drawn a good box so she should go well from the inside”, Elson said.

“She is a really good little race bitch. She has early speed, her first and second sections are pretty good and she can run home too, she is pretty strong.

“She has been unlucky a couple of times, but she might get there one day.”

It would be a rewarding victory for Bill and his wife Cynthia if Cyndie's Special could land the cash, having bred her litter themselves.

Cyndie's Special is out of the well bred Regal Silver, a daughter of and Wongawillisue, who won nine races from 63 starts.

“She was quite good, she went around and she ran best of day a few times, but we more or less just bought her for breeding.”

Her first litter by have been terrific money spinners for Elson. In addition to Cyndie's Special it also includes Bill's Fantasy, a winner of 16 races, Hope's Fantasy, Abby's Fantasy, Shanae's Fantasy, Trav's Fantasy and Wazz's Fantasy, with all of the racers named after members of their family.

And Bill's dream run on the racetrack looks set to continue with the Churchable trainer unveiling some exciting youngsters from Regal Silver's second litter by Magic Sprite in recent weeks.

On Wednesday afternoon Abby's Magic clocked a slick 24.98 over the 431 metre sprint at Ipswich, recording her second victory in as many starts. Jumping well from box three, the black bitch bounced straight on the bunny and was never headed, scoring by six and a half lengths on the line.

Elson said that he was impressed with the victory, although he was expecting her to go well.

“I thought she would win, she had run pretty fast when I trialled her. She had improved heaps on the week prior when she raced there, although she still ran fair time then, 25.25.

Litter sisters Hope's Magic and Shanae's Magic raced without luck on Wednesday, but both appear to have their share of talent, while the most exciting performance from the litter was when Cyndie's Magic broke her maiden in a slashing 24.89 at Ipswich on October 29.

It was a phenomenal performance by the 26 kilogram pocket rocket, just one tenth off the class record for a maiden greyhound at Ipswich, an airborne 24.79, set by Just Spud back in 2008.

Despite her terrific performance, Bill insists that there is not a great deal of difference between the four sisters.

“I would say Cyndie's Magic is the best at this stage because she does everything right, but there isn't much between the four of them. When I used to trial them there wasn't much difference.

“Cyndie's Magic will run the 520 and I think Abby's Magic will run the distance too, but I don't know about Hope's Magic yet. I'll have to give her a bit more time.”

Elson has high hopes for this litter and says that even at this early stage they look to have what it takes to surpass their older brothers and sisters on the racetrack.

“I think this litter is going to be better, the bitches are anyway. It takes a good dog to break 25 at Ipswich, I don't even think Cyndie's Special could do that.

“Cyndie's Special and Bill's Fantasy are really good dogs but I think Cyndie's Magic might overtake them all, she might be the best one I've had.”
