Fabregal wins 2016 Group 2 Bogie Leigh Queensland Futurity

SOUTH Australian raider has taken out the Futurity at , fighting out a tough finish to score an emphatic victory on Thursday night.

Trained by , the daughter of and Allinga Aye Jay was fair to begin from the inside and was able to punch up along the fence and take the early lead in the charge through the first turn.

Heading down the back and Fabregal wasn't getting away with the win easily, with Ironbar Jill and Split Image applying the pressure, the latter striding up beside the leader around the home turn and looking an ominous danger.

Despite the local looming as a threat, Fabregal dug deep in the home straight, kicking clear in the shadows of the post to score by three quarters of a length in a slick 30.02.

Split Image, whose trainer trained the great Bogie Leigh, the race the is now named after, battled on gamely to hold onto second, with Peter Ruetschi's dreams of claiming consecutive Futuritys quashed when his charge, Sheza Nice Size, finishing half a head further back in third spot.

It was a gallant performance from the winner, which took her record to 15 wins and seven minor placings from just 22 career outings – with a $64,770 now beside her name in prize money earnings.
